North Shore Steaks and Seafood at The American Place Casino

The only reason I'm giving this place a 3 star rating is because the staff and service was outstanding. If you're looking for a place where they serve over salted fish and call a fish cake a crab cake, this is the spot for you. My trout was burnt, dry and had so much salt I couldn't eat it. Our waitress gave us a discount which we appreciated. Given how expensive the food was I was beyond disappointed.

I’ve had the steak on my initial visit, and it was not as high of quality as I expected for the price. Flavor was fine though. Not a fan of the calamari seasoning. The wedge salad is fabulous, and in fact his is my go to whenever I visit. The meatballs are also excellent, probably had a half dozen times, once was slightly undercooked, but have been perfect since. The specialty drinks are wonderful as well. Even though in a temporary structure, you’d be hard pressed to notice.

When you consider the overall situation, it is hard not to give this place a 5. The temporary tent was transformed into a wonderful place for entertainment. You do NOT feel like you are in a tent. The restaurant was an add on and they have not missed the mark on anything. Having too large of a menu is not appropriate, IMO. If you want large variety go to a diner. The ambiance is delightful, the servers are attentive and the prices are pretty in-step with other steakhouses in the area. I’ve had about 10 different things in the menu from filet, trout, beef tenderloin to au gratin potatoes. They are trying hard to make this be a destination for a great steak and seafood in the area and they did not miss a detail. My ONLY complaint is the hours. Selfishly, I enjoy eating later and closed three days a week is tough.

Our three 8 ounce Filets all needed to be sent back to the kitchen. All three steaks were bloody in the center. The solution was to have the steaks butterfly cut. Our server, named Ray, has excellent potential. Ray’s skills need to be refined, and stepped up a notch. We asked three times for salt and pepper. He finally brought only salt. We had to ask a fourth time for pepper. If they have a gorgeous Peppermill, then why aren’t the servers trained in using it?
