“This is my second time ordering from them, and I’m impressed again. I ordered Efo Riro and croaker fish. The Efo Riro (spinach soup) came loaded with all kinds of assorted ingredients — shaki, ponmo, turkey pieces, and more. The spices and seasonings were perfectly balanced, making the food very flavorful.

Their prices are also affordable compared to other restaurants in Indy. The Efo Riro was $80, and the croaker fish was $100. The customer service was also excellent — 100%! Definitely one of the best places to get food in Indy.

Same day catering. Called them at 6pm to place the order and it was ready in 1hour. You cant beat that!“

“The best suya spot in Indy. Very lean suya and not too much fat. I’ve tried suya in other cities like Dallas and Houston, but I love the suya here the most. For $20 it’s worth it, would love if they could increase the quantity a bit more though. But amazing flavor.“

“My colleagues and I visited this restaurant while we were in town. We arrived during the evening rush and waited about an hour for our food, which the server explained was due to how busy they were. One thing that stood out was that we weren't offered complimentary table water while waiting, which was surprising for a dine-in restaurant.

We ordered jollof rice and fried rice with different proteins (fish, goat meat, and beef), while one person ordered plantain with a protein. The plantain was initially served burnt, but it was replaced after we pointed it out.

Despite the long wait and the service issues, the food was excellent. The smoky, well-seasoned jollof rice was the highlight of the meal, and everything else was flavorful. We enjoyed it enough to return the next day for takeout. With improvements to service and wait times, this would be an easy recommendation.“

“My husband and I came to Barako for a late lunch and was greeted and seated at a table. I ordered the meat and rice dish and my husband ordered chicken and chapati dish. The food came out fast (5-10min) with a side of salad and a banana. The portions are very large, at least 2 people can eat from it. The food was SO good, this was my first time having Somali food and I loved it. My husband felt the same. The workers were very polite and gave such good hospitality. They even gave us a cup of their tea on the house and it was amazing too perfectly sweetened with a great cardamom flavor. Alhamdulilah it was great food and the people at this restaurant are so nice. It’s a simple layout for tables, which is fine for us. I would recommend to come here again! For parking, you must go down the dirt lot past the semi trucks to find this restaurant.“
