The service was AMAZING, and the food was incredible. Each course and pairing was explained to us, and they truly went out of their way to make the experience the absolute best.

We dined here last night for my husbands birthday. From the moment we walked in, we could tell our experience was going to be great. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was elegant, but comfortable. We sat at the bar where we could watch the sushi chef prepare some of the courses, and I highly recommend requesting that. His knife skills were amazing to watch. My husband elected to do the drink pairing, and was impressed by all of the different wines, sakes, and rum offered with each course. The food was the real star of the show though. It is a fixed menu that changes monthly. Each course was different and unlike anything we’ve had before. The smells alone were amazing. Our favorites were the cauliflower soup, the savory egg custard, and of course the sashimi. We are both racking our brains, trying to find a reason to go back! It is pricy but so worth it. I highly recommend making this reservation if you are even remotely considering it. Thank you Hinata!

ATTN: Their menu changes monthly. This was the last day of February. We felt like we stepped out of the cold and into someone’s house where they showered us with love, warmth, and delicious food, for the evening. This was the best meal in Indianapolis for sure! Every dish was exquisite, flavorful, and different. The Chilean Sea Bass (not pictured) stole the night. The steak was the most tender steak we have had in Indy thus far. It melted in your mouth. It cut with a chopstick. The soup was so delicious and filled with tons of flavor. This was my favorite dish.Ambiance-beautiful. Flow/timing- on point. Staff- kind and warm. Our favorite part. This restaurant does NOT do a la carte. It has a five course or a seven course. Both come with optional wine and sake pairings. We did the seven course with the pairing and it was delicious. There was even a really cool Chardonnay manifested the same way sake is. Really cool!

Absolutely the most intimate, brilliant food experience I've had in a while. We were walk-ins and therefore “limited” to the 5 course walk-in meal. After finishing, I immediately booked a reservation for 2 days later to experience the fun menu. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Hinata, with their authentic Japanese cuisine, offers an incredibly unique experience for Indianapolis. The food is truly remarkable, especially the beef filet, the sea bass with a miso glaze, and the chocolate dessert! The accompanying wine and sake list were great, with the opportunity to do a wine pairing with each of the seven courses if you choose. The waitstaff did a great job of explaining each course, and the ambience was simple and laid back. We loved it, and will definitely be back!!

The food was absolutely top notch. The staff was very friendly and engaging. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted and we enjoyed watching the chef prepare each dish. It was a very delightful experience and can't wait to go back.

The food I can make at home and tasted nothing special I wasn’t introduced to the food I wasn’t greeted much it was like they seen me and assumed bc of my skin color and hair and clothes I wasn’t a valuable customer and that’s out of line. To be questioned bout moneyLike I didn’t just pay to be here. The Chef Was rude as hell disrespectful to a young lady and making fun of the way she was eating. Disrespectful servers saying it might be cheaper if we went somewhere else. Pathetic I want something done because I will not be respectful next time if this continues. HR. The Boss I want a response please and thank you.

I'm going to preface, not to brag, but to give a point of reference. My wife and I are foodies...we literally travel to try new cuisine, and have eaten all over the world. We were so excited for this meal touted as an "Experience", and it was, without a doubt, one of the worst "experiences" we've ever had.First of all, if I'm going to spend $400 for 2 people to eat, at least give me a cloth napkin! The food was mediocre at best. Service was poor...things were not explained, such as the Sake Flight that was paired with each course, which I didn't even find out existed until the third course. Atmosphere...nothing special. We've had similar experiences and have been blown away by the food and the service...the point of an "Experience" is to actually have an experience!

I had an ok time at Hinata. This was my second time going however this time I went alone. The food was very good the first time I went so ik I had to go back. The food was amazing once again. My only issue was that I seemed to be having my financial situation brought into question. It also appeared as if the chef was mocking me. It just made the experience more uncontrollable than I would like it to be. I don’t think I’ll be back for a minute.

I had visited Hinata a few years prior and remember the food being very good. I went back last night to get that same experience and left a little disappointed. The food was very good and I enjoyed my table however I felt uncomfortable by the fact my financial situation was being brought into question. It seemed as if the chef was mocking me as well. He went as far as to bring a chef out the back to laugh at me and making eating noises. I decided to leave early and not tip due to how uncomfortable I was. I don't think I will be returning.

Hinata has given me my favorite dining experience of all time. The chef clearly puts every effort into the quality and preparation of food. We were seated directly in front of the chef and were gratefully able to watch all of his delicate preparation. One of the severs (Sho) took his time and careful describe each of the dishes perfectly. All of the staff were welcoming and made sure to address us when we arrived and left. Dining here felt like we were transported to another location. It was peaceful and very excellent service. The food was phenomenal and delicately prepared. I couldn't have hoped for a better dining experience.

Had a fun tasting last night at Hinata, enjoyable experience start to finish with a chill counter to engage the chef! Everything was prepared well and the fish was all very fresh. Price is on the high side for what you're actually eating but it solidly fills the niche of fine Asian dining without leaving town.

My son and I tried Hinata for the first time this past Saturday evening. There is a parking garage next door to the restaurant and we chose to park in there ($8). They opened the door for us to come in and seated us at the counter as I requested. The ambiance was nice, low lights, very quiet. Our appetizer came and the plate was beautiful. There were 5 items on the appetizer plate. My memory is not great so I do not remember every item but I do remember I loved the cracker with the water chestnuts on it and the daikon and carrot salad. The middle amouse bouche dish had salmon roe on top adding a nice saltiness. All 5 items were very good. The following dish was the catch of the day. This sashimi dish contained cuttlefish, tuna, salmon, wasabi, shredded daikon, lettuce, and a slice of lemon. So now I know I am not a fan of cuttlefish, it has an odd texture. Does not mean I did not eat it though. This course was served with soy sauce on the side. Again the preparation was beautiful. Sitting at the counter we could see the preparation and how extremely sharp the knives were. Each dish was explained to us as they sat them down and they encouraged questions through-out the meal. The next course was the soup course, Zoni. I did forget to explain that the menu changes monthly and can be found on their website. This month the menu was all associated to the New Year. The soup was good as well. This is a traditional New Year soup and it contained mushroom, mochi rice cakes (we were told to chew those well), fish cake, daikon, carrot, fish, seaweed, and broth. Excellent soup. The next dish was the fish dish, Buri Daikon, and I could drink a barrel of the broth this was served in! They did warn that there could be a bone in the fish, so exercise care. I did not find any bones. The fish, a yellow tail, was simmered with daikon radish and the skin was left on the fish, it was meant to be consumed. The fish was soft and delicate and I loved this dish. The next dish was a beef dish, Grilled Miso marinated U.S. Prime Beef, it was filet mignon. Loved the salty miso on top of the steak and it was perfectly cooked to a tender medium rare. This was served in a hot pot and it definitely was extremely hot to the touch. Along side the beef was a very creamy mashed potato, a roasted zucchini slice and a sliver of red bell pepper. This was delicious as well. The next dish was the rice dish, Sekihan. This came on a seaweed sheet and was meant to be picked up like a taco. I do not remember what was in the rice but on top it looks like shredded cheese but was actually finely sliced egg. Interesting flavors and textures with the seaweed paper. Lastly was dessert, we were celebrating our Valentine's birthdays. My son and I were born on the same day and it is the holiday so I rarely make it out on my actual birthday as it is too busy. The brought out cheesecake and a dense chocolate piece on a plate with a candle that said happy birthday. Very nice. I am not a cheesecake fan so I had one bite and then my son ate both of them and liked it. The chocolate was good though. When we entered we took our coats off at the door and under the counter was a cloth basket to place my purse in. As we exited the held our coats for us to put them on and then opened both doors for us to exit. The service here was top notch. If a drop of water hit the table the wiped it up when they came by, they kept our water glasses full as well. It does came at a price but I would recommend this for the experience as well as the delicious food.
