This place is DISGUSTING. I walk in and the first thing I notice is how dirty this place is. I used to love steak n’ shake but now it is nasty and gross. There was trash in between seats and on the floors and none of the tables had been wiped, obviously.There were kiosks which weren’t very user friendly, and the staff offered absolutely NO help. In fact, i didn't know steak n’ shake had become automated at first. I sat at my table waiting for the waitress to come serve me for about 15 minutes, and she never did. She walked past me multiple times so she could’ve told me I had to order my own food.The food wasn’t very good either. The steak-burger was pretty good for the most part, but the top bun was very greasy. The chili was mostly liquid, which wasn’t the best. The fries were cooked way too long, it was very hard to even eat them because of how hard they were. I wouldn't be surprised if there were rats in this building.The bathrooms were even worse. There was a bunch of trash in the corner, and the urinal was clogged somehow. I didn't even try to use the toilet because it probably has multiple diseases on it and one of them had poop on the seat. The drinking machine tasted weird, like they hadn’t cleaned the soda machine in 10 years.I get that some businesses can have setbacks due to COVID, but this is absolutely inexcusable. Next time i’m in valpo, if there are no other options I will just STARVE. This was a very bad experience, the only reason it isn’t 1 star is because of the burger.

I went inside. The fully automated "self serve" kiosks weren't very user friendly. Easy to navigate but you don't have much in there to customize your meal even though there are such buttons available. The menu does not have the same items offered in the drive through. The lobby was garbage. The floor was dirty; tables were unbalanced, and every and I do mean every table base, had a ring of dirt and rust that made me leave. The food was better than average so drive through is clearly the way to go. The lobby had me thinking about how things may be in the kitchen? I will pursue better options without so many questions the next time I decide to eat "fast-food".

I haven't been to a steak 'n shake since they became automated. Using a kiosk it was really difficult and frustrating when I expected waitstaff. The two employees were very kind and as attentive as they could be, the food was good but the garlic burger just had tablespoon of butter on top of it it was kind of gross to pick up the burger with all the grease on top.... It would be much better to be inside yhe bun.

Disgustingly filthy. Floors in dining room hadn’t been cleaned in who knows how long. Old food was stuck to the seats in the booth. Smeared ketchup on the counter. Staff literally laid our tray of food on top of it, never bothering to clean it up. Will not go back. Someone needs to clean the place or shut it down.

Grease needs to be changed, we came in two nights ago, and could not eat our fries nor onion rings because they were just full of old grease. I usually love steak ‘n Shake food so maybe just an anomaly?The staff at the window was also a little short, I did not get the sauces that I asked for for my chicken tenders.

2nd time this month after not visiting steak and shake for several years. Order and pay on kiosk. Double steakburger with cheese, fries, and a drink can be had for $8 after tax. Pretty good meal for $8 nowadays. We splurged and got large cheese fries and a chocolate shake with our burgers so we spent $28 this time after a small tip for the cook. Great food and we were stuffed when we left

I am extremely disappointed it’s become very impersonal since everything is automated now my garlic steak burger didn’t have garlic on top of it like it usually did the place was dirty nobody there washing tables people were wiping off tables themselves. It was absolutely horrible.
