Trail Days Cafe and Museum offers a unique dining establishment with a rich historical experience. The owners are the sweetest people and very knowledgeable in the history of the building, town, and Kansas. Located in a meticulously restored prairie house, filled with artifacts and trinkets, including a Kaw pictograph on the doorframe, the place is decorated with period appropriate items. The menu is diverse and delicious, featuring dishes that reflect the progression of settlers into the area, with recipes true to the time period, prepared and seasoned as they would have been in Council Grove. Visitors can expect to learn about the history of the area and the Rawlison-Terwilliger house from the knowledgeable hosts. The food is well-prepared, and the stories and history behind the dishes make for a memorable meal, creating a homey, welcoming, layback atmosphere that transports you to a simpler time. Guests are invited to explore the space or visit the museum next door. The Bison pot roast with sweet potatoes, succotash and Indian bread is very good, topped off with a large chocolate chip cookie.
