Truly one of the best and most unique dining experiences I’ve ever had in my life. A wonderful tribute to Senegalese and Creole food. The staff was absolutely incredible — so friendly and knowledgeable. Explained Senegalese transitions and even started the meal with a table side hand wash. They weren’t stuffy either, which can be common at restaurants at this caliber. They really made our experience top notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. All locally sourced and in season ingredients. Will absolutely tell anyone visiting to go to Dakar.

This was one of the best eating experiences of my life. The food was incredible and the soup is a dish that I’ll remember forever. The service was just as amazing. Effie and her team were so inviting and happy. I couldn’t recommend Dakar Nola enough. It exceeded every expectation we had. Thank you so much for having us.

Our favorite dining experience on our quick trip. Chef Mbaye and his team are doing something really special here. Service was exceptional. Definitely do the communal seating as that is the proper way to enjoy your meal.

So happy we had the opportunity to visit Dakar on a recent trip to New Orleans. The staff is so kind and welcoming, they were very accommodating when part of our party was late due to a flight delay. The meal starts with table side hand washing, a traditional way to welcome guests to the home. Then onto smaller bites; palm oil buns, fried cassava with crab and a lovely tea topped with mint foam. Favorites from the larger plates were gulf shrimp and fonyo, and a stew with beans, palm oil and lobster. Mid-way through the meal our hosts explained the significance of the dishes and their roots in Senegalese culture. A unique and delicious experience!

The evening begins with a handwashing ritual and a cup of tea. With each course, Mbaye comes out of the kitchen and offers a story that often explores the joyous and tragic history of the African diaspora. Mbaye, a quiet perfectionist in the kitchen, also speaks through his food, and the quiet confidence of his cooking can leave diners in stunned silence.

We were so glad we did not allow the few negative reviews we saw prior to the visit change our decision to enjoy this tasting experience for our anniversary. From the ambiance, to the service and food, everthing was top tier. Some of the dishes even took me back to fond memories from my childhood. If you are planning to go to New Orleans, do yourself a favor and include Dakar to your reservations list. Your time with Chef Serigne Mbaye, Effie and the rest of the staff will definitely be one of the highlights to your visit.Dietary restrictions: The tasting menu we enjoyed was pescatarian.Parking: There is street parking near the venue.

What an incredible meal! The dishes are clearly well though out and I loved that they took the time to explain the story of each dish. I have to come back here to see what chef Serigne Mbaye conjures up with other seasonal ingredients. The entire staff was welcoming and very efficient.
