“Melissa brought me the vegan empanadas they had made with their collab with Impossible meat. And do you know how hard it was to not eat all 4 at once?! So flavorful and yummy! The ingredients were well distributed throughout, the dough was absolutely delicious and everything was perfectly cooked. Everything she does is amazing and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!“

“Che Empanada is a Newton spot that is easy to drive past without stopping, which would be a genuine mistake. The menu runs over twenty varieties of empanada on a given day, and the range is wide enough that building a mixed order across a few different fillings is the natural and obvious way to go.
The classic beef is a reliable anchor and the short rib version elevates that same foundation with a richer, more layered filling. The chicken mushroom is one of the more distinctive options on the menu and worth ordering if you want something that departs from the expected. The spicy chorizo pairs well with the chimichurri sauce, which is worth asking for if it does not come automatically. The La Che is another strong option if you want to try the house specialty alongside a more classic pick.
One thing worth knowing is that some varieties sell out earlier in the day, so arriving with a bit of flexibility in your order in case a specific filling is gone is a smart approach. The space is more takeout-oriented in scale, but it is warm and comfortable enough to sit and eat without feeling out of place doing so.“

“Bocadillos catered my daughter's college graduation party in our home. The food dictated the theme! Year after year, my daughter has followed their "Empanda Truck" at the Snow Port in Boston. Last winter, she insisted that I go too, just so I could taste the empanadas. They were absolutely mouth wateringly delicious!!!! So much so that when it came time to choose who would cater her grad party, the choice was easy! Since Carribean/Latin American food was the menu, we complimented it by hosting a full blown Fiesta with a margarita bar and more for 40 people! We had the food prepared in advance and everything was delicious and piping hot! Our host/chef added to the fastivities with his knowledge of the food, his kindness, and his sense of humor. The cost was very reasonable as well. WARNING: Once you have these empanadas, you will never be able to eat anyone elses again.
Vegetarian options: My favorite empanada is vegetarian!!! And I'm not a vegetarian. My favorite is the corn & cheese, and my second favorite is the black bean.“

“Had the best chicharrón of my life here months ago. As soon as I spotted them glistening on display, I knew I had to order. Crispy skin, juicy meat, perfectly seasoned. The pork fat was rendered just enough so the remaining fat had a firmer, almost meaty bite instead of melting away. It was one of those rare, stop-you-in-your-tracks moments.
Unfortunately, when I came back a few months later, they were just… ordinary. No more juiciness, just dry chunks sitting out on display. Maybe it’s a timing thing—you probably have to show up early morning to catch Colombian chicharrón at its best. The rest of that plate (sausage, rice, beans) was fine, though the beef was on the tough, dry side.
On my most recent visit, I tried the beef empanada and carne asada. The empanada was decent, but clearly not fried to order—still edible, but not something I’d go out of my way for. The carne asada, however, was one of the best I’ve had in the area: thick cut, fat cap rendered just enough to bring flavor without grease, and seasoned spot-on. My only gripe was the side—fries instead of rice, which pushed the whole plate into salty-overload territory. Fries were great, but rice would’ve balanced it better.“

“Ok been here a few times now and it never disappoints! Open late, noodles are delish, and the spicy beef bao was SO DELISH! (They don’t always have it though, their menu changes occasionally which is awesome). Perfectly sweet and fluffy bao, beef was flavorful and yummy, plus pickled veg in there! Says they close at 1 but we walked in well past 2am after the bars closed.
Omg the pork katsu tornado curry omurice is to die for!!! So crispy crunchy even after sitting in curry sauce for the entire meal! The egg, fire. Sauce, yes.
And ok but seriously best best thing on the menu is the hotpot beef noodles!! The broth is phenomenallllllll, scent of lemongrass bamboo and ginger in such a spicy fresh aromatic broth, it gave me life! And it has some pickly things and greens in there and the NOODLES are absolute perfection! The texture, just yes! And big chunks of tender brisket. Wow, miracle lollll
Can skip the karage though, meh.“
