I have been dining at the Straight Wharf Restaurant multiple times per season over the last 35 years. Lots of great memories of delicious dinners in a beautiful setting. Last night was different. SWR accepted our reservation in the main dining room. When we arrived we were informed that the only available table was located in the loud, crowded bar. They crammed the 6 of us into a table for 5. Straight Wharf Restaurant provides a memorable dining experience with skillfully prepared and beautifully presented courses, complemented by excellent table service. The lively bar offers great cocktails, including the signature Goombay Smash, while the main dining room features a refined, candlelit atmosphere perfect for a special evening. The prix fixe menu is reasonable and highlights dishes like rare tuna, scallops, and a generous clam bake with lobster. The watermelon panna cotta is also a popular choice. The restaurant boasts a big, open summer space with high ceilings and windows overlooking the harbor, where guests can enjoy views of boats and activity near the water. The bar menu is almost always great, with options like Cheese Plate with red wine crackers, fruit, jam, figs, honeycomb, and warm fluffy bread, along with seafood, chicken, beef, vegetarian entrees, and approachable wine selections. The staff, though sometimes busy and exhausted, generally knows the menu well and provides friendly service. Straight Wharf remains a favorite spot on Nantucket for its seafood, vibrant atmosphere, and beautiful harbor views.
