“I went here twice while visiting from out of town, once for a Drag show and again that week for a kink event. The drinks are strong, Larry the mixtender took great care of us both times we were there, and the patrons were so friendly! I had a great time and I'll definitely return ❤️“

Baltimore Eagle Gay Bar • $$
2022 N Charles St, Baltimore

“Isn't it about time that they switch from calling it a leather bar to, maybe, a costume bar?Upon entering the Code bar section I was accosted for wearing a black t-shirt when the guy ahead of me breezed through in a dress. I can appreciate that all people need to be supported in our community. What bothers me is that that Baltimore isn't able to have a leather anything anymore and they pretend that they are. Putting a sign up that says "leather bar" is like a kid's Halloween costume that has "batman" written on it because you might not know from looking at it.“

Leon's Backroom Bar Gay Bar • $$
227 W Chase St, Baltimore

“This is an excellent dive bar. It's dark, full of neon, the drinks are cheap, and the bathrooms are clean. There are two bars - one in the front and one in the back, so you can experience two different vibes. The back room is almost pitched black, and the whole room is taken up by an oval shaped bar, which is great for people watching. There are so few true dive bars left in the neighborhood, this one is a gem.“

Leon's of Baltimore Gay Bar • $
870 Park Ave, Baltimore

“Horrific crowd. Repugnant bartenders. Attitude so thick you can cut it with a knife. I've been out of the closet for 40 years and I have never had a worse experience. Although they make the drinks far too strong for my tastes, they simply can't make the drinks strong enough to drown out the character of those characters. And if that wasn't enough, the shock on my face as one of the bartenders let Cole L. (see her review as well as mine) drink at the bar. She was only 19. She was born in 2004. How could it have come to this, after all: Leon's of Baltimore: With potential origins in the 1890s and documented LGBTQ+ service since 1957, it has a strong claim to near-continuous operation for over 60 years. However, details about its early years remain unclear. Julius': Opened in 1935 and has functioned primarily as a gay bar since the 1950s. However, it faced brief closures due to legal challenges and renovations, technically breaking the chain of continuous operation. White Horse Tavern: Opened in 1673 and has served diverse clientele throughout its history. While it became a haven for LGBTQ+ individuals during discriminatory times, it wasn't exclusively a gay bar throughout its entire existence, raising questions about continuous operation in the specific context of serving the LGBTQ+ community.“
