You would think that a cafe with a coffee roaster prominently situated in the front of the premises would value fresh coffee beans. But when I watched the barista dose already-ground coffee from the grinder to produce a shot that literally gushed and spurted from the portafilter from the moment the pump started, I knew the beans were anything but fresh.
