“Royal Taj is our go-to restaurant for special occasions, like our 20th Wedding Anniversary last week. It never fails to deliver excellence. Because it was a very special dinner, we decided to try something different. So my wife ordered the Lobster Malabar and I ordered the Grilled Halibut. Both were very good, especially the Halibut which was covered in an outstanding Corn Relish. To top off the evening our excellent server, Joshi, brought us a slice of very tasty cheesecake with a lit candle on top. As usual we cannot rave loud and often enough about Royal Taj and it is all due to the GM Binda, who is very friendly, charismatic and truly sets the tone of excellence at Royal Taj.“

“A Magical Night at Toby’s Dinner Theatre!
I recently took my 11-year-old daughter to see The Little Mermaid at Toby’s Dinner Theatre, and we had a wonderful time! We arrived around 5:15 PM and were first in line for seating when the doors opened at 6. The staff was organized and welcoming — we were greeted, assigned our seats, and promptly escorted to our table.

Our server (who also happened to be one of the actors!) took our drink orders within five minutes. Bread was brought out shortly after, and we were invited to help ourselves to the salad bar. Once our table number was called, we made our way to the main buffet.

While the buffet was plentiful, I felt the food quality didn’t quite match the rest of the evening’s magic. There were cheese and crackers, coleslaw, and seafood pasta salad, followed by broccoli, corn, a spaghetti pasta dish, seasoned baked chicken, ribs, and a carving station with ham, roast beef, and turkey. Unfortunately, nothing tasted particularly fresh or flavorful. I would’ve loved to see more kid-friendly options like mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, or chicken tenders — something to match the family-friendly theme of the show.

Now, the show itself? Absolutely fantastic! The acting, singing, costumes, choreography, lighting, and music all exceeded my expectations. The talent on stage was clear from the very first number to the final bow. My daughter was captivated the entire time — as was I! The show started around 8 PM and ended at 10:30 PM, and the pacing was just right.

We heard the venue is preparing for a renovation and expansion, and I’m excited to see what changes come next. Toby’s has some incredibly gifted performers, and I’d absolutely recommend the theatre experience. Just hoping the dining aspect improves to match the high-quality entertainment.“

But this place still holds on to the best kind of neighborhood bar tradition. The food here does what it needs to do. “My husband brought me here for our anniversary and it was absolutely phenomenal. It’s located in gorgeous historic Ellicott City and the atmosphere is romantic and intimate. The staff were attentive and professional…but the meal itself was divine. We had a 6 course meal and every single bite was a melt in your mouth happy dance. “When I first heard "Indian Pizza" I was skeptical but this place absolutely shines. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka pizzas are phenomenal. If you've had a Buffalo Chicken pizza before, it's along those lines. We also tried a Palak Paneer pizza, which shouldn't work at all but somehow does. I have yet to try "actual" Italian food there, but for fusion and Indian things, it's a great pick.“

Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and had some good recommendations. They offer predominantly dry wine and only have a few options for sweet BUT the sweet wine that was offered was delicious. Soft Chicken Tacos (8/10) - From the very first bite I knew it was fresh and everything tasted spot on. The rice and beans were decent too.

Chimichanga (9.5/10) - This was probably the best thing I've had here. It's perfectly delicious, wasn't overly greasy and heavy. It was perfect. This one might be the go to for most people.

Patron Platter (9/10) - This dish was also spot on, but the pork tamale 🫔 was just what it needed to be a complete dish. A great option if you're feeling a variety of food.

Tres Leches (8/10) - While this wasn't the best I've had, it by no means disappointed. The cake was good but more importantly it was sweetened perfectly. I've been to too many spots that over do it, so it was nice to find a spot that gets it right for a change. I recommend this one for dessert.“

Seems kinda overpriced for the “fast food” experience, but if you sign up on their website you get a free welcome burger, so first trip will be cheaper lol. In retrospect I should’ve gotten a more interesting burger, but the milkshake was delicious and had a good consistency. Bf got a veggie burger on a chard leaf wrap, which is probably the healthiest option and was very flavorful. And green bean fries, which were a fun side option.“
