Thirsty Whale Tavern Reviews
Got the blackened haddock, and though the fish was flaky and cooked perfectly, there really wasn’t much flavor to it as I HAD to use the tartar sauce! Blueberry beer was really good.
Cute spot in town with very reasonable prices and portion sizes for the area. The blackened fried haddock sandwich was phenomenal and so filling! The side salad was quite overdressed, so I would ask for dressing on the side next time. We also had the fried pickles as an appetizer, which were ok, and my friend had the wings which were decent as well. The wings are fried and seasoned but not sauced. Delicious lobster roll! At least as good as the other 2 places I had a lobster roll while in Bar Harbor! The smoked trout dip also delish but what made the meal was Dan the friendly, efficient and kind bartender!! Thanks Dan for chatting with us and making our dinner so nice!

Thirsty Whale Tavern is a hidden gem that exceeds expectations. The exterior may appear unassuming, but the beautifully renovated interior and exceptional service make it a standout. The menu features a range of delicious options, including the highly-recommended fried seafood platter, which boasts light and crispy breading on the freshest seafood. Other popular dishes include the lobster roll, served with plentiful chunks of meat and toasted hot dog bun, and the fish sandwich. The tavern also offers a variety of cocktails and beers, including locally-brewed options. With its cozy atmosphere and impressive menu, Thirsty Whale Tavern is a must-visit destination. It’s especially good for seafood lovers, offering dishes like fish n chip and chicken salad that receive high praise. The portions here are massive, with the blackened fish sandwich featuring a piece of fish that might weigh a pound or more. The fish is very fresh and tender, falling apart easily, though it can be quite oily since even the blackened fish is deep fried. The brioche buns are soft and tasty, making for a satisfying meal. The oysters are small but fresh. The vibe could use some work, but overall, it’s a great spot for lunch or a lively night out. Draft beers and specialty items like smoked trout dip and giant Frueben sandwiches also add to the appeal, making it a good choice for those looking for a cozy yet vibrant place in downtown Bar Harbor.
