About Take A Hike Cafe

Take A Hike Cafe offers a variety of options, from Lärabars to noodles dishes and salads, although it is on the pricier side. The cafe has seen some changes over the years, now owned by two vegan men, with a daily soup offering and vegan baked goods available. The grocery section includes unique items like Cosmic Bliss vegan ice cream, but some duplicate items can be found cheaper elsewhere. The store has a small produce area and friendly staff, although some customers may find the hours unreliable. Despite occasional staffing issues, the cafe offers good quality food, with options like chickpea salad and dolmas enjoyed by many customers. Customers appreciate the many vegan grab-and-go options such as pesto pasta salads, curried chickpeas, and Thai noodles, perfect for picnics in Acadia. The fridge features eggless tofu salad, pasta salad, and even gumbo, which have received positive feedback. While the market has a great variety of vegan items, some customers found the prepped foods limited and looked for more sandwich options for hikes. The baked goods, including vegan and gluten-free choices, are well-loved, especially the Lemon loaf, scones, and coffee cake.

Loved that this place offered vegan groceries. They did not have much vegan to go food at all when I went unfortunately.

Bar Harbor is a tough place for a vegan. Sadly I didn't find this place until my last day as the hours were wrong on Happy Cow so check online (I did send in an update). They pre made food labelled vegan-a hot soup, a curry wrap, quinoa salad, and sushi. Highly recommend if you are tired of surviving on trail snacks!
They have lots of vegan grab and go options like pesto pasta salads, curried chickpeas and Thai noodles. They also have vegan cookies and candy. Great for stocking up for picnics in Acadia, which is what we did every day we were in town.
