The Whale's Tale & Seafarer's Pub

My husband and I selected the Whale's Tale for dinner on a Saturday in mid-May. The restaurant was quiet and not crowded when we arrived in early evening. We enjoyed the food (I especially loved the Tuna Poke with fresh baked crackers), the peaceful atmosphere, the golden light of the setting sun streaming through the window and the fact that it was just steps from the motel at which we were staying.

Their website says they’re open, but arrived at 5pm on Saturday, January 10, 2026 and THEY WERE CLOSED. I wish boothbay restaurants would do a better job at updating their hours and noting if they’re closed for the season. I could’ve saved a trip.

We went in December and it was all done up with holiday lights. Full sized Santa for the little ones. Food was great! The salmon slapped. Would do 2 of the artichoke dip next time. The chowder brings me back to the boothbay chowder house days of my childhood. 11/10 going back this summer

We enjoy this local spot. The seafood is fresh and delicious. We sat at the bar and Desmond provided great service and a mean cocktail.

The first night we were greeted with open arms by the host Thomas, but felt the wait staff was not quite as professional. The first night the salad never arrived and the second night the chowder never arrived for the 2 lobster dinners. Lunch the 3rd time I went the bartender waited on us and was great! The food here is amazing.

Terrible. Service was slow and incomplete. Asked for dressing on the side with the salad and it came drenched in dressing. Had it remade and the chicken was dry and tough. The pan seared haddock with butter crumbs tasted more like it had been cooked in a microwave with no seasoning. Two of us didn't get our meals until the other four were almost done with theirs. Asked for grated cheese for the pasta twice and never got it. Half of the things we requested, including drinks, were unavailable. Waitress forgot key components of the lobster dinner. It was the worst meal we have had on our vacation in Boothbay Harbor this trip.

Visiting on a trip and the food was exactly what was needed. The haddock chowder was excellent. Wonderful view of the bay from the restaurant. Cute hidden gem just off the road.

Wonderful find :) chef Matt gave a prelude to tonight’s menu the bolognese arancini , amazing !! The lobster roll was amazing-too !! best I have had in a long time long time!! Bartender Desmond awesome hospitality and service. Great way to kick off our anniversary weekend . Thank you ❤️

Great location mediocre service great shrimp on the risotto but tasteless risotto ( added my lemons for flavor! Would not recommend
