About Helen's Restaurant of Machias

Helen's Restaurant of Machias offers a casual yet slightly sophisticated dining experience with friendly staff and a lovely water view. The restaurant features outdoor seating during peak season and provides a clean, safe, and wheelchair-friendly environment. The menu is small but appealing, focusing on quality rather than quantity, with popular dishes like fish chowder, fish and chips, pot roast with mashed potatoes and green beans, and their renowned pies—available both on the menu and in a display case for takeout. The chowder is especially praised for its flavor and filling nature, while the broiled haddock is cooked perfectly and very moist. The lobster roll is also highly recommended for those seeking a taste of New England cuisine.

Start your meal with complimentary soft biscuits and butter, and enjoy tender rolls as a perfect beginning. The restaurant uses tallow for frying, which adds to the quality of the food. Portions are generous, and the food is fresh and appetizing. The desserts, especially the pies, are a highlight, with many customers returning for slices even after their meal.

Service is friendly and attentive, with staff frequently checking on diners, refilling drinks, and removing dishes efficiently. The restaurant maintains a high standard of cleanliness in all areas. Prices are reasonable, and parking is free. While not overly kid-friendly, there are some options on the menu for children. Overall, Helen's Restaurant delivers a memorable dining experience and comes highly recommended for anyone in the area.

loved the pies, and much more. i used to lived in Deblos..back in the 50 . good food .
I do a fair amount of traveling and Helen’s is now on my top 5 list of places, no questions. Good variety on the menu along with good dessert options (save room, it’s worth it). The staff was extremely friendly and made you feel comfortable, the restaurant itself was very well kept and clean which to me says a lot. Next time I am in the area I will be making my way there again. I highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed.
Ate outdoors today and it was a wonderful view! Had the grilled Brie and blueberry sandwich that was on special and it was divine! The service was impeccable. I would highly recommend Helen’s!!!
