“This place has great food. The Portland cafe is always crowded at the typical times people get hungry so plan accordingly. The wait is long at those times, but worth it. I’ve had the bagels (divine), the maple cream cheese (less so) and a couple of their melts and the Cape Cod chicken salad. The chicken salad sandwich is in a class of its own. Light on mayo, heavy on tastebud excitement, this quickly became a personal favorite. The multigrain bread is a meal in itself. Delightful! On one visit, I was waiting for a longer spell and had the chance to observe a busboy getting his hustle on behind the scenes and I couldn’t have been more impressed. I know this hard work from first-hand experience a million years ago when I was starting out, and commitment like his speaks to a core work ethic that is admirable and often hard to find. His efficiency, adherence to a-cut-above cleanliness protocols and his quiet, humble dedication to keeping the business’ back end running so the front end could shine…well, it was nothing short of impressively spectacular. “Adorable vibes and the donuts were 11/10. Stopped with our kids and tried the cookies and cream. Possibly the best donuts I’ve ever had. They are mini and you have to order in packs of 6 with one flavor. I wish they did a flight so you can try different ones without committing to a few boxes. Cost is reasonable as well!“

There are tons of plants, rocks, and decorations to choose from to make the perfect terrarium for your personality. For the price of the jar, you choose your plants and have access to experienced terrarium artists who know their stuff! My husband and I had dinner reservations, but we could have enjoyed brews and chews while we built our own mini world. 10/10 would recommend!“

“I will echo what many others have said - the food here is outstanding. In my opinion, this stands among the best bakeries I've ever been to including (insert one of several fancy schmancy European cities). The options are numerous, creative, delicious and simply incredible. As you stand in the cramped quarters, plate after plate of new baked items comes out of the oven. The smoked maple tart is a favorite as are their chocolate chip cookies which are my favorite in Maine so far (assuming you're a crispy cookie guy like myself). I haven't even mentioned what they're actually famous for which are their delicious bagel sandwiches. You can get everything from a classic lox and cream cheese to sea urchin terrine with apple cider gelee. Which, by the way, is amazing.The downside? The experience is unique and for some might not be what they expect. The entire operation including cooking area, restaurant storage, cash register and the single table for 8 are all squashed into a tiny one room cottage. Don't expect to find easy parking. Expect to wait a while in lines. Don't be surprised if there's no seating available. But if you enter with an idea of what The Purple House is (and some extra time in case it takes a while), you will not be disappointed.“

“Adorable little cafe with cozy vibes and delicious coffee. My cozyside latte was so good. I also really appreciate their commitment to eco-friendliness. All of their disposable items are compostable, the trash cans are all compost bins, and the for here cups are reusable glasses. So many places only serve their coffee in disposable cups so I have a lot of love for the places that still serve coffee in real glassware“
