I waffled between 4 and 5. and also, I admittedly am super spoiled (and arguably precious) about my coffee (when your morning coffee is coava (look it up), it's impossible not to be) but after stopping at hyperion (ypsi location) the week before and not being impressed, this was a very nice reprieve.

High quality coffee in a tiny place.
I've been to almost every coffee shop in the downtown area, and Comet is probably my favorite, especially for an Americano or drip coffee

Comet Coffee offers exceptional coffee with unique blends and a cozy atmosphere that delights coffee enthusiasts. Located in the historic Nichols Arcade, the café provides a European-inspired ambiance and consistently serves high-quality beverages, including the popular earl grey tea latte and maple star anise latte. The small space gives off an European vibe of small spaces, with a few indoor and outside seatings, making it an ideal spot for people to stop and have a good talk. It is a perfect place for studying or relaxing, especially on a hot day when the coffee stays warm longer thanks to quality mugs. The location in Nickels Arcade is absolutely splendid, and the atmosphere is complemented by relaxing city music. While seating can be limited during peak hours and using tablets or laptops at most tables is not possible, the staff is friendly and creates a welcoming environment. The coffee is top notch, with a smooth latte that many find better than other places. There is also a mobile smart restroom outside the alley, which is clean and highly recommended. Parking is available nearby, with a parking structure next to the café. Overall, Comet Coffee remains a beloved destination for University of Michigan students and locals alike, known for its outstanding espresso, pastries, and cozy vibe.
