“My husband and I got a carry out despite the fact we never ate there before and only saw it while driving by. It turned out to be the best barbecue we’ve ever had in the state of Michigan. We got smoked wings, ribs, fried shrimp, yams, beans, and Mac n cheese. Everything was amazing. This is definitely going to be our go-to place for bbq from now on.“
“First time in today. Our server Charles was absolutely the best. Personable, fun, attentive. All the good qualities to make you comfortable and want to come back. The food. Let me tell you, some of the best I’ve had in a long time. I got the seafood platter. The catfish and shrimp were out of the world. But for me, the hush puppies. The best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back.“
“Whew!! Amazing vibe overall! I enjoyed the 90s r&b on blast while I enjoyed a great meal along with a mimosa flight. Our bartender was so nice and recommended all the good stuff! Try the soul food egg rolls — you won’t be disappointed. I will always make this a go to when I visit Detroit.“
“Hamtown is the best place to go if your looking for amazing soul food cooked fresh daily with expertise and a passion for cooking incredible food. Everything I've had from here has been delicious, even the mashed potatoes and gravy which may seem basic and underwhelming is so flavorful, smooth and rich, believe me the mash is not to be overlooked. Anything you order from hamtown will undoubtedly hit the soul food craving you have.“
“I gotta say that Chicken Shack chicken is the best fried Chicken i have ever had, regardless of which one you pop into.I hadn’t had KFC in like 23 years, and I remember it being awesome. And seeing as how they don’t have a Chicken Shack around me, i hit their crib up fer some extra crunchy. That junk was extra soggy & gristly. The Shack also blows away Zenders in that freak Bavarian type place in Frankenstein. They just flood u with their all u can eat gimmick, but their poultry products are sub par.The Shack coleslaw is also over the top tasty too. I think they must add sugar to it er something, because it’s like candy. So don’t skimp, and drive the 20 mins to get ur 2 piece lunch pack today!!!Oh, and fer atmosphere I prefer The Shack location in Lincoln Park. Being downriver I sorta fit in better (is that a good thing?). Plus it’s right down the street from where my friend Ashley lived with her husband. So if I got hungry parked down the street waiting for her husband to leave, it was the perfect location ?“
“Slim Chickens is the latest addition to the Oakland University food court. It is a chicken sandwich/tenders/salad shop. The food is very good, perfectly spiced and is freshly cooked. Unlike some of the restaurants in the food court, the staff at Slim Chickens are very efficient. They process process orders quickly and I've rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes, even during the busy lunch hour. I highly recommend Slim Chickens and will be back in the future.“
“Found this place cruising down The Mile The other day.. the Chicken Po'Boy was pretty good, I really enjoyed it.. but the macaroni side left a lot to be desired.. I didn't really want a mac and cheese side, but they don't serve fries. The sides menu should be expanded.. add Cajun style fries and mashed potatoes.. plus the options to deep fry the chicken on the Po'Boy and I'd frequent this place often.“
“I found this gem one day looking for lunch was over fast food and wanted some real home cooked food. Can’t deny I went back for day two today bringing my son along . The best peach cobbler the best smothered chops the best northern beans greens were off the chain . Everything is A1 will probably eat there everyday.“
