Barú Detroit | Kitchen + Cocktails is a phenomenal establishment with a great vibe. The drinks and food are to die for, with a fantastic cocktail menu and cuisine. The owner and staff are fantastic, providing great recommendations. The venue is spacious, offering a sublime and unique downtown experience. The after-work atmosphere is lovely, and the outdoor seating is a wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon.
The food is amazing. The octopus is excellent, the guacamole is fantastic, and the shrimp empanadas are awesome. For mains, the short rib is hearty, a large portion, and delicious. The curry chicken is soft, delicate, and flavorful, while the jerk chicken is always a crowd pleaser and excellent. For dessert, the tres leches bread pudding is very decadent, just enough to have a taste without feeling heavy.
The only downside is the location. Parking can be expensive, about as much as the dinner experience ($80 - $100), unless there is an event. The restrooms are in the basement, with separate men's and women's rooms. The men's restroom had only one stall, which wasn't enough for how packed this place gets. Nice amenities are offered, including lotion, mouthwash, and pleasantly scented hand soap. Accessibility could be an issue, though there is an elevator down to the basement.
