Booked 2 hours of services at the spa weeks ago. After several emails, phone calls, even a text reminder of my apportionment the services were canceled with three hours notice. The lame excuse was an error synching online and phone in apportionment scheduling. If this error is known, why not be on the lookout. So incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Either that or the staff went to a great after hours and called in sick. Beware if you book a spa appointment. They may wreck your plans, too.
Lock doors early in evening. Phone number posted goes nowhere. And night shift employees apparently sleep on the job. Couldn’t get in to the hotel previously paid for.
The Detroit Club is a beautifully preserved historic gem that captures the elegance and charm of old Detroit. From the stunning architecture to the rich history throughout the building, every detail reflects timeless sophistication. The atmosphere is warm, classy, and welcoming, making it a wonderful place for dining, events, or simply appreciating the city’s history. The staff was professional and attentive, and the overall experience felt both luxurious and memorable. A true treasure in downtown Detroit.
Mother's Day Brunch was outstanding. Carefully thought out premium food options with friendly and professional service. My only suggestion would be to have a handful of gluten free dessert choices.
We stayed there in April and had been looking forward to it because the Detroit Club is an historic building that was not torn down. Our room was very disappointing and obviously not checked before our stay. The lock on the door did not work. It just spun around. Only one plug was functional. The TV channels were difficult to find and when we found one, the TV itself short circuited, sort of exploded. A shower handle on the inside would have made it safer. The music from downstairs kept us up late when we needed to check out early the next day. We were on the second floor. The resort fee was just another way for the hotel to collect more money. When we checked out, we saw the gentleman at the front desk write down our complaints. Yet, when we talked to the front desk manager, she said she saw no list. Little wonder room repairs are not made between guest stays.
Amazing Place! Live music!
There isn’t another hotel in the city like this. Yes, it’s old, but that’s why it’s so special. Every room is different, every floor is different. Its old charm is beautiful, and I’ve never had a bad experience with anyone that works here.
We attended Dining in the Dark here but are absolutely coming back to stay!
Not only a beautiful old hotel with a great vibe but hands down the nicest staff I have ever experienced. From the check in and glass of champagne, to the wonderful drinks at happy hour in the library and then to the late night old fashioned in the cigar bar made expertly by Krista. Thank you for a lovely night in the city.
Had a drink at the bar 10/10 bartender was amazing too he was super friendly! Will be back

How do you turn a five-star experience into a two-star one? Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened during our recent stay at the Detroit Club.
The visit started off exceptionally well. At check-in, we were warmly welcomed with two glasses of bubbly, and our bags were promptly brought up to our room—an excellent first impression. We valet parked and immediately made our way to the Library Bar, where we enjoyed a fantastic lunch and several drinks before heading to the Pistons game. The atmosphere and service were outstanding.
We spent two nights at the hotel and genuinely enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable, the facilities are beautiful, and the light breakfast each morning was a lovely touch. There was an added resort fee, which was a bit annoying, but acceptable given the overall experience.
Then things went sideways.
A couple of days after checkout, an unexpected $26 charge appeared on my credit card. When I inquired, I was first told it was for “missing taxes”—which made no sense as the stay was prepaid. I pushed back, and the explanation suddenly changed to items taken from the minibar. We absolutely did not touch anything in the minibar.
What’s most frustrating is not even the $26—it’s the complete lack of service afterward. I emailed at least four or five times and called, with no resolution. When I called and asked for a manager’s name, I was refused. That’s simply unacceptable.
It’s disappointing because the stay itself was excellent. But how a hotel handles issues afterward matters just as much—and in this case, they failed completely.
Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Detroit with a lovely spa and “grotto” hot tub area. The bar and front desk staff were so friendly and helpful, and the complimentary glass of champagne at check in was a great treat! The rooms are appropriate for an historic hotel, and the bed was SO comfy! No fridge or coffee maker in the room, but there is complimentary coffee with the continental breakfast in the AM. Easy walk to downtown and to the riverfront. I would stay here again.
We went to the Library in this facility for an after dinner drink. It was pretty quiet. Drinks were good. I really liked the ambiance. Wood, high ornate ceilings and paintings on the wall. Chairs were comfortable. Service was fine.
Amazing weightstaff!! And amazing food!!!
The food and attentiveness of the staff at The Detroit Club for our “Dining in the Dark” dinner were outstanding. I recommend everyone attend this if it returns.
