Terrible experience. Ordered carry out. It wasn’t ready on time, they hadn’t even started the order. Not a big deal. It happens. But then they were out of something we paid for. When we attempted to ask about other options the “manager” became extremely rude. Asked if we just wanted $0.50 back and went to fish the coins out of the leave a penny tray. Completely unprofessional. We’ve always had a great experience at the Ann Arbor location. But we’ll definitely never return to this Dexter location.

Lima beans in the tacos....Bland foodGot take out, wasn't cheap and 4/5 things not edible. No sour cream or salsa with the food. This place is gross.
bad experience. person who picked up the phone did not understand my order also got the taco trio that comes with beans and rice and they forgot my rice and beans and told me to check my order. Will not go back.

This review is largely a warning about using the online ordering system. We eat Chela's fairly regularly and it's usually alright. The staff is friendly and the food is decent. Tonight was a pretty epic fail though and from reading other reviews, their online ordering seems to be a common weakness.Our online takeout order didn't make it to their kitchen as we discovered when we showed up to pick the food up. This was an unwelcome surprise made worse by a non-existent host/front of house and 10 minutes of standing around before being acknowledged somewhat rudely by one of the staff. After a few minutes, the manager came out and explained that they didn't get the order and took a picture of my order confirmation email to expedite the order. After another 5-10 minutes, he came out with the food and again suggested calling next time instead of ordering online. I wrote it off as being solely a struggling online system until I got home and realized there were multiple mistakes and missing items from the order itself.Overall, fairly disappointing experience. I hope it was a one-off and we will give them another chance since it's important to us to keep local businesses but it certainly won't involve the online ordering system. In the spirit of ending on a positive, the orange/hot salsa was amazing!

The food was underwhelming. We didn't enjoy it whatsoever.Server was awesome though! Very attentive.Weird smell in the dining area not far from the restroom.

The food was authentic and amazing, like homemade. Salsa was great. Waiter was friendly and fast.We had delicious pork tamales and chicken enchiladas. The guac was a little flat but we threw the salsa in it to bring it up a notch.

Es muy bueno. I love, love all of the veg choices. The elote (Mexican street corn) was a thermally hot cob sweated by spices, cheese, and mayonnaise. The black beans were whole and gentle tasting, with a spritz of shredded white cheese. The cheese enchilada was gooey and topped with a sauce with a slight kick. The potato flauta (yes, potato!) had a perfectly crispy shell, lettuce, and a delicate white sauce. My tamale had a mushy corn filling with a wonderfully earth flavor and with piquant cheese inside.I wish we had this back in my metro Detroit hood. Enjoy it, Ann Arborites and Dexter denizens.
