On a trip to Grand Rapids, we stopped at That Early Bird for a late lunch and asked for the special, which was a colorful open-faced sandwich on sour-dough bread, with avocado, beets, goat cheese, arugula, pesto, some pickled vegetables, and a soft-boiled egg--all beautifully arranged on the plate. An unexpected and delicious combination of flavors. The service was not bad. We liked the cafe ambiance: Clearly a community gathering place--casual and friendly.
I had the baked french toast and I absolutely loved it! It's such a cool place to have brunch. They also have a little table for kids so they can play while the grown ups enjoy the food.
I ordered the Vindaloo Curry Hash and it blew me away. Each flavor complemented each other perfectly, and I was pleasantly full without feeling weighed down and "greasy." Most coffee shops and cafes only offer simple sugar and baked items, but Early Bird offers amazing food in addition to coffee. The atmosphere is unique and they offer a large water cooler to their guests. There's lots of natural light to work by. I'll definitely come back!
