8 Best Southern Restaurants near Grand Rapids

“Sunday brunch was at Tupelo Honey n downtown Grand Rapids before heading back home. It's a large restaurant and bar with outdoor seating. Our server was Elayna and she was friendly and sweet. Hubs had the chicken & waffles. Which he said was very good. I tasted the waffle and it was yummy.. I had the garden harvest omelette asking for the goat cheese grits and egg whites instead of whole eggs as those choices were indicated on the menu. Unfortunately, when the food was delivered there was roasted potatoes and no grits. When I told the girl who delivered our food, our server came back with grits apologizing. Then I asked her if the omelette was made with egg whites and she said it should have been, but if you see the pictures it's a yellow omelette. Usually egg white omelettes are light in color, basically white. The food was very good, however the two mishaps on a simple breakfast order shouldn't have happened. Looking at our receipt from the restaurant, the grits and the egg white requests was not noted on my omelette so it looks like our server neglected to enter those into their system for the kitchen. Also I was very disappointed, they only serve specialty iced coffee drinks, not a hot one in sight. How can you offer a variety of iced coffee drinks but not make a hot cappuccino, a Matcha, or a chai?“

“This is my 3rd trip to Wing Kingz and I’m telling you there aren’t many places frying up chicken and fish that are THIS GOOD! Blue Gill is my go-to with Lemon Pepper seasoning and it is perfection every time! I also had the deep fried cauliflower which is the best I’ve ever had! I am definitely going to be a repeat Royal Customer as long as they keep cranking out amazing grub like this!“

“Absolutely delicious! We stopped in on a Tuesday for dinner and were greeted with great service. We got the catfish, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and mac and it was all amazing! I haven’t found anything so close to family cooking in a restaurant before. We both left clean plates. Will definitely be returning!“

“The mixed drinks are out of this world! They're not too sweet, and not too boozy, the perfect balance. The food was pretty good, definitely worth coming back for. The food was not brought out at the same time. The first guest was finished eating before the last even got their order.

My biggest complaint probably isn't the restaurant's fault. You order through the website. Their payment provider would not accept either of my cards. Luckily my partner's Apple Pay worked. This would have been very embarrassing in other situations. The cell service is sketchy (not their fault), but the guest wifi password at the table is not correct (their fault). Since internet connectivity is required to order, make sure your guests can access it.

Overall we had a good experience. Everyone is friendly and helpful. We will be back.“

“CLK overall was an amazing environment and very family oriented. I would like to give a huge shout out to the manager from last night, I came in believing I had a reservations because I was celebrating my bday but also doing a gender reveal that was done Feb 13th for March 1st but it wasn’t in there system. Instead of turning me around her and some of staff maneuvered and make things work in my favor. The server we had started out great but then became a little rude and I don’t know if it was because of my party downsizing or what but the attitude changed. She started reaching over ppl not saying excuse me so I became a little irritated on my special day. I really wanted to experience more of the food but the way things went it just changed the whole energy for me. But everything wasn’t bad and like I said I truly appreciate the amazing manager from last night and I was told that the bartender that made the drinks was superb!!!! Thank you“

“Our waitress was helpful with questions we had. The food was very tasty. We usually get trout or Roast Beef, but they aren't available at this time. So we ate breakfasts instead. Hope the trout and roast beef returns. Both are our favorites! Those are favorites of a few friends we go out with quite often also. Thank you.“
