Rack of ribs were fall-off-the-bone good. The sauce is ok, but slathered on so I needed four napkins and three wipes while eating. And I'm not that sloppy. My wife had the whitefish piccata which was dry. We've been regulars here for years and have usually found the food was good. Today it is merely acceptable. And when will they ever get rid of the canned or just thawed out green beans! But, this time when I asked our very friendly server for something to substitute, she offered a second baked potato, which I had already had one coming, so I guess this is the new policy? Take advantage of it so the owners will finally get the message and eliminate the always "seasonal" green beans. We had our must-make reservation, and waited about five minutes before being greeted, then seated. The atmosphere is always great with lots of historical paintings and sundry items around. It does get noisy.

I made a same day reservation, and the lady on the phone was very nice, and when I arrived to the restaurant everyone was very friendly and engaged in conversation. It was 5/5 service for the entire dinner. It is a very comfortable restaurant to be in. Everything from the lighting, seating, temperature, and my favorite was the decor. The French onion soup was outstanding. The cheese was baked perfectly, lots of flavor in the broth, not over salty. The Whitefish Picatta sauce was mostly what I'd expect, but the fish was not flavorful. The green beans were cooked perfectly, still crunchy. For the fish to be the star of the show with no flavor it was pretty disappointing. I did hear I should go back and try something else.

Awesome food. Awesome atmosphere. Awesome service. What else is there to say?! I would try the whitefish. And please try the blueberry wheat beer. So good.

We ate in this historic building for dinner. Got in without reservations. Spinach an artichoke dip was very good. I got the cod dinner. The cod was very good.

My family and I had a lovely time at the Vierling this past month. Service was prompt and friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality of the food was outstanding. We will be back the next time we're in Marquette!

We were passing through Marquette on our recent vacation and wanted to stop in town for a look around and lunch. I am always looking for Micro breweries and a friend recommended this place both for it’s beer and food. I got a flight of beers and a Cajun whitefish sandwich both of which were excellent. I had to try the homemade cheesecake for dessert which was also great. Service was great too. I will definitely be back to this establishment the next time we are in Marquette. Highly recommended.

Underwhelming is a good way to start. We ha d reservations for 7:15, received our meals approximately 2 hours later. Fortunately, we were with great company. So, no one had gotten to the irritated stage, but while we were there, two tables were seated after us, received their meals and left before we received our meal. Locally, you will hear that this is the place to go. I've since found there are a couple other restaurants that have better service, which we will frequent from now on. As for the menu-Pros - the prices aren't overly inflated, the meals were mostly good. No major complaints ( which is surprising considering how long it took to be served)Cons- the menu is sparse. The selections are an attempt by the restaurant to feel elite, but your choice is beef, whitefish or one vegetarian meal. There's a couple variations how it can be prepared, but nothing that is too complicated or sophisticated. Maybe that's why the prices weren't terrible? Our server was friendly and hospitable, unfortunately she gets the brunt of the slowness criticism. Our drinks had to be refilled by request. I would hold off visiting, take your chances on several other restaurants if you're looking for a dining experience. This location is probably best described as a pub that is attempting to add restaurant meals. Unfortunately, I didn't see any burgers offered. That would've been easier to justify a higher rating.

I would rate The Vierling a 5/5 if you are looking for good variety of complex flavors. The atmosphere was warm and the walls were decorated with fun history memorabilia. We started off with drinks: A bourbon habanero margarita, it was on the sweeter side and perfectly rimmed with spicy Tajin. The Big Fruity (Double IPA), medium bodied with tropical fruit and honey flavors. The appetizer: French Brie Cheese, $12 Vegetarian, GF Options 1/3 wheel of semi-melted, gooey Brie cheese. Served with a generous amount of crispy apple slices & crackers, sweet jelly, and raw walnuts. & don’t forget, you can get the rine! Whitefish Corn Chowder Bowl, $6.75 Very thick and creamy, clear chunks of whitefish were delicious. Came out very hot and was perfect with a touch of salt and pepper. House salad, $3 GF & Vegan Options The server recommended the house Herb Italian dressing, it was very oily and went well with our pizza crust later on. Dinner: Caprese Pizza, $15 Vegetarian The homemade thin crust pizza was crispy, and the crust was light and flakey. The balsamic drizzle and added garlic were the perfect touch, but I was left wanting more mozzarella. Lake Superior Whitefish Picotta, $20 The fish was perfectly browned on top, compliments to the chef. The Picotta sauce was very lemony, which I prefer, and the capers added the perfect amount of salt to the dish. I ordered the baked potato for my side, and found myself topping the potato with the piccata sauce also. 10/10 would recommend this dish. Dessert: Carrot Cake To-Go, $6 Very moist and dense cake, with a rich sugary frosting. I would say this was one of the best ones I’ve ever had!

We just stopped in for a drink and snack and sat at the bar. Had whitefish bites and they were great. Will definitely go back some day for dinner when we can maybe get a table by the window. Beautiful view.

Unfortunately the service and food have gone downhill since the last time we visited. The lettuce in the salads tonight were bad and the server could have cared less. Server did not check on us during the meal. The fish had no seasoning. Also there were constant flies buzzing around the table (inside). Overall a disappointing experience.

I'm not sure why this place is so busy. First time we ate here, our table was sticky. Second time, the food continued to be unremarkable. It's all just okay. Nothing we ate here said, "wow, I wish I could make that at home." Instead it was, "wow, I can't wait to go home."Staff was friendly, place is buzzing, ambiance is kind of cool in there too. Now, if they could just work on the food, it would all come together.

Pros: Beautiful waitresses, outstanding whitefish dishes and a pretty good, but not great, selection of beer.Cons: Very old school, cramped seating and loud. The Hot Blond Wife and I stopped in for dinner and our server, Lilly, was a tremendously beautiful and cool waitress. Everything was kosher until they seated a noisy 6-some of 80-somethings right next to us. Oh well. We really enjoyed the smoked whitefish appetizer and the whitefish bites. And Lilly.

On a cold rainy day I saw that The Vierling had French onion soup! Was so excited I brought my whole family. We're a big group, but we are flexible and don't mind being split up into two or three tables. Instead we were totally refused service. Rude. Full of attitude and not friendly or accommodating. We went to Delft Bistro instead. They happily built us a table for ten.
