“Autumn thank you so much for not only being open also for being so welcoming to me. This is my kindred spirit weekend summer time home town. The place I go to when I’m am lost in depth of disappear. The first Christmas I was unable to spend without my children had me at my lowest the patron and the bartender brought my spirits up. Amazing place with great atmosphere. Not to mention food is not your typical bar food it’s actually really good…“

“We recently stumbled upon this hidden gem while searching for a last minute dinner spot, and it quickly became our new favorite place! The cozy cabin atmosphere, complete with vintage nostalgia, immediately captured our hearts. The dim candlelit ambiance and the option to cozy up by the fireplace during colder months added to the charm. The service was impeccable; the host/owner warmly welcomed us, allowing us to choose our own seating, and our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. The establishment boasts a rich history and offers a welcoming atmosphere for all. We were pleasantly surprised to find guitars adorning the walls, available for anyone to play, and were even treated to a serenade by one of the owners, who happens to be a musician. Despite the minor inconvenience of slightly sulfurous-tasting water, our overall experience was nothing short of delightful. This place truly is a hidden gem, offering not only delicious food but also a truly memorable dining experience. Will be back!!“

KATES PLACE Bar • $$$
9220 128th Ave, Montague

“Realized as I was heading to Marquette on a business trip with my hubby that I'd forgotten the pedicure I'd planned to schedule before we left. Best forget ever. Remembered a friend said her son worked in a salon and she ended up scheduling one for me at Kate's Place. Oh my goodness, best pedicure EVER and so appreciated how hard Crystal worked to hydrate my always cracked feet. Plus, the music and conversation was awesome. Had so much fun, didn't want to leave. I come up once a year and am hoping they'll be able to squeeze me in every time from now on.“

“In another post, I told you about a best friend of mine who recently passed away at the young age of 66. This was his most favorite place in the whole world! Lefty and Romo's put up with a lot from my friend, he was known to knock down a few, but they still treated him with respect and acted like they were genuinely happy to see him when he visited the joint! That made him feel good although he never said anything, I know it did because they had every right to permanently ban him on several occasions but instead made sure he got home safely, so he could come back with his dignity. That's pretty unheard of in this day and time, so Kudos to an establishment who treats their regulars like that! The other night we went with a whole group and I just got appetizers. Everyone else got dinners and sandwiches. I've eaten there before and have always enjoyed my food but maybe I just wasn't in the mood to try the gator but I didn't like it very much, it just didn't feel good in my mouth and not much taste. Other people in the group, however, really enjoyed the appetizer. Also, I ordered clam strips as an appetizer and they even warn you on the menu that they may be chewy. They did taste good but having to chew excessively like that was too much work for a lazy eater like me, so I gave up after awhile. As always, the service was excellent, they were very busy, packed, but that didn't make any difference to our service or our food being served in a reasonable timeframe. Lefty and Romo's is a great place to go have some cocktails, have a quick meal or a leisurely dinner with friends and/or family. Pretty comparably priced to most restaurants of their kind and if you haven't visited at least once, you should make it a point to go. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed!“

“My travels have brought me to the small town of New Era a couple weeks ago. It was the only place in town. When looking online at the menu, it looked short, but I was hungry so I gave it a try. They specialized in grilled cheese and tomato soup. Why not? It was a rainy day. This place did NOT disappoint. They brought me this huge stuffed grilled cheese sandwich with piles and piles of ham on it. It had cream cheese on it, which was questionable, but was surprisingly delicious! At $14 for a grilled ham and cheese and tomato soup, simply the best I've ever heard..and that's comparing against a grilled cheese served in Switzerland that was claimed as being a world renowned grilled cheese and one of the best in the world. This place beat them out, hands down. While I most likely won't be back to this little town, I will miss this gem in the middle of the Mid-northern Michigan wilderness. Stop and try it. It may be a couple miles off the highway, but it WILL be worth it!“

“Had the Texas burger and it was one of the top 2 or 3 burgers I have ever had, including my own. I was full but still wanted just one more bite. It was that good. Was served with crinkle fries which were ok but some good hand cut or curly fries would have complemented that delicious burger much better.Dietary restrictions: Wife has gluten allergies, had a burger and said it was good and the bun was better then most. Was thick enough as to not fall apart as some do. Was most like a regular bun.“

“The food was very good..the staff was wonderful. I did catch my pants on a nail sticking up out of the chair seat. Tore a hole in them. Was not happy about that as they were new. When I said something to our waitress it was basically ignored. I will try to go back again.... hopefully they will have done something about their chairs.Parking: A good area for parking. As far as I could tell no handicap parking and no way to get in if you have a wheelchair.“

“Drinks were good, and the July 4th event they were doing was fun, but we didn't get the right food in several ways and had waited so long up to that point that we no longer had time to get it corrected. I will give some excuse since it was a holiday, but it was not that busy inside and it took the servers quite some time each time to see us even though we were sitting right next to the servers prep area.I would recomend for drinks or bar breakfast, but doesn't give "brunch" vibes at all.“
