“We order from here a lot, but not after tonight. Most of the order was messed up and not cooked fully. Then, something we regularly ordered was half the size it was two days ago yet, the full price. We compared the containers because visually it was that obvious. Called and talked to the manager and got an apology, but no offer to correct the order or refund what they left out and what was not fully cooked. Would not recommend nor will be back!“

We called in a panic to try and downsize the order and ultimately had to cancel our taco bar. Whomever we talked to was incredibly gracious and understanding but we felt terrible for our change in plans. We had our hearts set on mexican food and were able to still place a pickup order for our remaining guests that afternoon. From burritos, bowls, quesadillas, and guac, our guests enjoyed it very much! The portions were impressive, everything was hot and fresh, and well packaged. “Sorry for the heft, but I also don’t care. La Piñata deserves it.

I first discovered La Piñata back in 2017 when I was working on that side of town. I went there frequently for several years, then changed jobs and basically stopped going because I was no longer nearby.

I’m far from a Mexican cuisine authority, but in my view, it’s hard to beat the authenticity and quality of the food here. The drinks have always been good, the customer service has always been top tier, and the cherry on top was always Luis, a guy who never seems to have a bad day, and if you are having one, he’ll make you forget about it real fast.

A month or two ago, after realizing how long it had been, we randomly stopped in and nothing had changed, and I was thrilled. The food was still excellent, the drinks were somehow even better than I remembered, and Luis was still there serving. Even better, his son is now part of the experience too, and he’s just as great as his dad.

Now we find ourselves coming back every few weeks despite living on the other side of town with plenty of other options between here and there. My wife’s soccer team has also started going there for post-game libations. Today I realized I had never left a review, and I have no idea why. So here it is: do yourself a favor and visit La Piñata for the food, the drinks, or the vibe. You won’t go home disappointed. 🌮

One last thing: about a month ago, I asked for a mojito, and it was excellent. A few weeks later, I ordered another one, and Luis basically told me I needed to try his strawberry mojito. Obviously, I accepted, and I was not let down.

Today, I came in and asked for that same strawberry mojito. They were out of mint. Next thing I know, Luis leaves the bar, goes to the store, gets fresh mint, comes back, and still makes me the strawberry mojito. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen service like that anywhere else. As I told them, it might be the best mojito I’d ever had. 🍹

Fast forward 20 minutes: we’re finishing up and about to cash out when they ask if I’d be willing to try a new mojito Luis had just created. My answer was, of course, “give it to me.” 😂

He made a blueberry mojito, and it is the mother of all mojitos. It was SO GOOD. It even bested the strawberry one in my opinion, which was no small feat. How awesome is it that he chose me as his test subject? 🥹 Anything for you, Luis. Thank you for trusting me with such a critical task. 🫡 I’ll be asking for it again soon at my next visit. Hopefully it’s on the menu by then. 😉

“Super friendly beyond awesome service tamale kitchen is my first and only stop when thinking about getting Mexican food in Michigan. the food is so fresh whenever I go to stop by for lunch you guys are always on top of everything preparing food bringing it to the warmer out front and a very clean safe environment for everyone. “My wife and I have eaten here several times and love it. The food and service are top quality. Lately we've found the Molcajete to be our favorite. We share it and still have enough leftovers for at least another meal for each of us. The workers are all so kind, fun, and happy. They make us feel great every time we come... After a poor experience next door at the Main St Pub, we aborted our dinner over there and came to Los Amigos where we KNEW we would be well taken care of and they lived up to it!“

“If you haven’t been to Que Buenos in the last 8 months, you honestly don’t even know what this place has become.

My wife and I stopped in on the drive back from Detroit—nothing planned, just saw it was on the way. And it ended up being one of those stops you remember because everything is just dialed in in a way it wasn’t before.

First thing you notice is the shift. The new owners didn’t just tweak things—they rebuilt the experience. The food has more confidence to it. Same foundation, same idea, but now it’s cleaner, more intentional, like every dish actually has a point. Nothing feels random anymore.

Service matches it. It’s not stiff or overly rehearsed—it’s human. People are present, they care, and they move like they actually want the place to succeed. That energy matters more than people think.

The building itself feels alive again. It’s been refreshed without losing its identity. You can still feel what Que Buenos is supposed to be, but now it’s elevated. Better flow, better feel, better rhythm when you walk in.

Even the branding and marketing—you can tell someone finally aligned the outside story with what’s actually happening inside. It doesn’t feel disconnected anymore.

What surprised me most was my wife. She’s not even big on Mexican food at all. And halfway through she’s looking at me like, “This is really good.” By the end of it, she’s calling it her new favorite spot. That kind of flip doesn’t happen unless something is really working.

“This was my first time stopping at this Qdoba. I could tell from the line they were short staffed. But I have to say this was the best service I’ve ever had at any Qdoba. When I arrived there was only one gal working the food line was also working the register but she managed to acknowledge each person waiting in line, apologizing for the delay. She was quick & efficient and very friendly! Her manager jumped in to help and he was also very friendly, making sure the food was fresh before serving. The food was great, the service was great!
