Hidden gem. Was in the area for work and saw this place tucked away. Nothing fancy or exotic about its location; it's in a strip mall and is very utilitarian in nature.
That said - the food was excellent. I had the awaze tibs and while I'd have preferred they brought the heat, I can understand why it was likely prepared for the average Midwestern palate. Miskir Ethiopian Bar and Restaurant is a hidden gem located in a strip mall, offering a welcoming and refreshingly serene atmosphere. The restaurant specializes in authentic Ethiopian cuisine, with a focus on flavor, quality, and generous portions. The food consistently impresses diners with its well-cooked dishes and balanced flavors. Notable meals include the Awaze Tibs, which features tender beef with a flavorful, mildly spicy awaze sauce. While some find the spice level milder than expected, the dish is still highly praised for its tenderness and taste. The vegetarian platter is another highlight, served on a lazy Susan with six distinct options, including a standout beet dish that is earthy, subtly sweet, and perfectly spiced. The injera, soft and tangy, complements the dishes beautifully.
The restaurant's service is friendly, attentive, and efficient, making each visit enjoyable whether dining in or ordering takeout. The staff’s genuine hospitality and helpful attitude create a warm environment that appeals to both Ethiopian cuisine connoisseurs and newcomers alike. The restaurant is praised for its cleanliness and tastefully decorated interior, which makes for a comfortable dining experience.
For those new to Ethiopian food, the absence of utensils is part of the charm and enhances the authentic experience, though requests for forks are accommodated. The traditional coffee served here is described as sublime—one of the best in recent times—and alone, it would be worth a return visit. Overall, Miskir Ethiopian Bar and Restaurant offers a flavorful, friendly, and memorable dining experience that celebrates community, good taste, and quality.
