We went to celebrate a birthday and our group had excellent service (thank you Maddie!) and the food for each course was top notch. I’ll be thinking about the beets and carrot cake for a long time! It was a great way to celebrate and as locals it was nice to have somewhere to go that had a good vibe! We will for sure be coming back.
We have been looking for a fine dining establishment since moving to northern MN 3 years ago, and at last we have found it! The Pines did not disappoint from creative drinks and hard-to-find bourbons in the brooding, yet inviting bar (worth every step down to it, and the barkeep is a hoot!)

Incredible food… unbelievably good food - ALWAYS. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The Pines is a 15 out of 10. ❤️

Based on the reviews, The Pines Restaurant offers one of the best dining experiences in northern Minnesota. Every visit feels special. The Easter feast was outstanding, with a highly recommended deviled egg flight and ham dinner. Other standout dishes include the beets with whipped goat cheese and yogurt, the cauliflower dish with roasted cream and Everything bagel seasoning, and the braised beef with Wagyu chuck roast. The walleye tempura, gem salad, mushroom tortellini, and sea bass are also excellent. The menu changes and features collaborations with local farmers. The food and drinks are beautifully plated. Downstairs is a speakeasy bar called the Understory, where incredible smoked maple Old Fashioneds and wonderful cocktails are crafted. The intimate dining room has a top notch food for the price. The staff, including the waiters and servers, are great and make everyone feel like they belong. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the restaurant sometimes has live Jazz in the speakeasy. The Chef received a James Beard nomination. This is a must visit.
