We celebrated my mother’s 70th birthday at Rio 1854 on the Saint Croix River in Stillwater. The tree-shaded patio along the riverfront is perfect on an early-autumn afternoon. The water and a light breeze is perfect for brunch. We explored the menu, ordering house-made plantain chips, seared jumbo sea scallops, a seafood omelette for me, the crispy fried calamari for my mother, and the flan for dessert.
