El Patron is our favorite restaurant but today will be the last time we will ever go there. We go there at least a couple times a month. Today service was very slow and our server didn't come back to check on us. Brian joined us after work and said I wonder why they are so slow today. I said maybe they are short staff. Had shrimp fiesta tacos and poblano mole. They were awesome!
Enjoyed the drinks and dinner, But when is the suggested tip become a requirement. I gave him the bill with a 10 percent tip. He returned the tip to the table with the suggested tips circled and said I need to increase my tip to one of the 3 suggestions. I was shocked and did increase it to the suggested tip. Am I missing something .

Based on the reviews, El Patron Mexican Grill & Cantina is the best Mexican in Winona. It did not disappoint, with great menu variety and flavors that were spot on. The food is fresh and full of flavor, with generous portions. The fajitas for 2 are sublime, and the chips and salsa are a classic. The tricolor enchiladas, with one each of green chile, white queso, and red sauce, are very good, and the Shrimp Fiesta Tacos are also a favorite. The 2 for 1 Margaritas are a nice choice for the patio, and the Sangria is tasty even without fresh fruit. The restaurant is conveniently located off the highway with free off-street parking. There is both inside and outside seating available. The prices are always very reasonable. Though service can be slow to take an order, the food and service are great overall. A 3 piece band even comes out to play for birthdays.
