Tonight we walked in to eat dinner for a party of 5. Then a party of 3 right behind us. They got seated before we did I can only figure because maybe they are regulars. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Our server never came back to check on drinks. Our food came and the fajitas for 2 was wrong. My son’s kids meal was frozen still. We sent it back. Based on the reviews, Cheves Kitchen and Cantina | Mexican is an unexpected gem in Aurora, offering very delicious food with an airy, bright, and clean restaurant featuring fun colors on the walls and a quaint outside patio. The food is consistently excellent, with some of the best carne asada street tacos, delectable coconut shrimp tacos, and the freshest and most flavorful guacamole. The chips are a favorite, with a perfect crunch, and the salsa is pretty good. The Southwest Salad is prepared correctly, though the standard chipotle dressing is a main reason for ordering it. However, the service has been inconsistent. While some experiences include great service and being greeted immediately, other visits have involved a 20-minute wait to order, stale cold tortilla chips, and a server who was unsure and attempted to reach across a guest’s plate. A small portion of the correct dressing was delayed. Despite this, the food is a reason to return, and the restaurant is very reasonable, with a takeout order of street tacos, a chicken chimichanga, and tres leche cake costing around $30.
