“Irie Eats is a small family owned Jamaica inspired restaurant located in Uptown St. Louis, Missouri. This was the first time my wife and I had eaten at this establishment, and from the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. They had Reggae music playing just loud enough to set chill vibes' atmosphere. The restaurant isn't that big, so a party of 10 or more would make the place seem crowded. My wife tried their Ox Tails, and I tried the Curry Goat, which all entries there comes with a side of rice and beans and cabbage. I must say, in my opinion, the cabbage was a miss for me and my wife. It seemed to be lacking seasoning to make it flavorful. The rice and beans would have also had some seasoning issues as well, but their saving grace was that I added them to my curry goat broth, and it brought them to life. The highlight of my meal was the curry goat, as was the ox tails for my wife. They both were well seasoned and savory. I made my own stereotype assumptions thinking that all Jamaican food was prepared spicy and had my mouth ready for a Caribbean spice punch that never happened. When asked, I was told that you have to let them know that you want it spicy, and they'll make the adjustment for you.Overall, the meal was just ok, being that the sides fell short of complimenting the main meal. I do feel that the price was a little on the high side at about $20 for my goat plate and around $24 for my wife's ox tail plate ??♂️. If we do go back, I would definitely like to retry the meal with a little spice added to see how it would bring the plate to life.Parking: Side of building parking is very limited and tight. I would avoid going in a big SUV or pickup truck if possible. There is only one way in, so you have to drive down a small hill and through the back of the buildings to get out and back to the main road.“
“food is great. it should go without saying, but it's very spicy. it's absolutely packed with powerful flavor. its not the cheapest option. maybe reducing the menu could make the remaining offerings cheaper and improve the margins. I was looking for a bread or tortilla to come with my plate, but I might have been able to order that. I recommend trying this place, the food is excellent. The vibes inside are great, which must come from their dedication and love for food. on a nice day there's lots of outdoor seating, but otherwise I'd take it to go. I can't imagine the hard work that goes into keeping a place like this afloat so thank you for providing me with something truly unique and what I can only assume is authentic. I enjoyed it and will be returning for sure.“
“Ordered some takeout. Definitely call ahead, can take some time depending on your order. Ended up ordering the app sampler platter (with plantains, fried fish balls, meat pocket and wings), jerk chicken plate, and ox tail stew.We came by to check on our order and they told us they were actually out of wings. Oh well, overall the food was pretty good. I doooo love my oxtail. The jerk chicken was moist and flavorful!!! Pricing was a little more than expected, bur next time I'd skip the app platter and just order 2 entree plates. The food was pretty good, would eat again!“
“African Palace definitely has great quality food. However, the price to portion ratio is why I can't give this beautiful establishment 5 stars. The portions are just too small. But I'll be back because they do have the best West African food in the city.“
