Ole Planters Restaurant Reviews

Authentic local cottage cooking with distinctly German-American flavors. Prime rib respectably mid-rare, hard to find in rural midwest. Corn could be better possibly from a can in heart of corn country. Green beans were delightful, nostalgic German country kitchen favorite. Smoky brats lean toward Bavarian. White wine sauce tasty, could be more intense of same flavor.Decor a rustic treat. Truly antique and interesting not kitchy. Succeeds where many of this ilk fail.

If your Mom was just an average cook, and you didn't go hungry but never loved the cooking but didn't want to hurt her feelings, you will feel right at home at Ole Planters. The portions are ok, but there is nothing special. The building looks great from the outside and has a homey feel inside, kind of like Cracker Barrel. I'd eat there again but would have preferred somewhere else if most of the restaurants in town were not closed on a Tuesday.

Went here during the Twain on Main. The wait was not bad for a table. The atmosphere is really cool with a lot of old antiques hanging on the walls and older classic country music playing. I got the country fried steak with green beans and roasted potatoes. The food really does have a great home cooked taste. Would definitely come back here.
