Love it , definitely will be returning 🥰🥰
The food was excellent, and the environment was welcoming and wholesome. Your greens were exceptional among the best I’ve had in a long while. I look forward to coming back.
I don’t normally do this but today is apparently the day. After my Aunt’s funeral service today my family of about 50 people were going to eat together at Mama Hamil’s. My cousin has battled mouth cancer last year and won. But she isn’t able to eat solid food. At Mama Hamil’s she was told, very rudely that she would have to pay for a full buffet because she would be occupying space. So very disrespectful to a person with a disability. Mama Hamil's Southern Cookin' and Bar B Que Buffet in Madison, Mississippi, has been a beloved spot since 1977. The family-owned restaurant offers a large buffet filled with authentic Southern comfort food, including BBQ ribs, fried chicken, and chicken and vegetables. The extensive selection of sides, such as macaroni and cheese, turnip greens, beans, and peas, perfectly complement the hearty entrees. Desserts like peach cobbler and banana pudding provide a sweet ending to the meal. The buffet features plenty of vegetarian options and kid-friendly choices like pizza, making it suitable for all ages. Customers appreciate the quality and freshness of the food, especially the rutabagas, which are hard to find elsewhere. The atmosphere is cool and nostalgic, decorated with vintage signage and Mississippi memorabilia. The restaurant is family-friendly, with ample parking and wheelchair accessibility. Notably, there is a flat rate for take-out plates that includes a drink, which many find convenient. The welcoming staff, including Chef Hamil, go out of their way to ensure satisfaction, creating a memorable dining experience at an excellent value.
It is very busy all the time, but the food remains fresh and hot. Ribs, fried chicken, baked beans, and cinnamon buns are highly praised. The best time to visit is around 1:00 pm or later, after the lunch rush, especially from Monday to Friday. Customers say the food is excellent and reasonably priced for a buffet at $18 for an adult lunch. Many recommend bringing a handheld fan or neck fan during the summer since there is no air conditioning in the waiting area. Take-out orders are popular, with plates flying out the door, and the service is noted to be outstanding. Though the atmosphere gets crowded during peak times, visitors are eager to return and experience the variety of foods and the great cooks behind them.
