I believe when she learned I was going to Starkville said, "You have to visit my son's restaurant!" so I did. The folks were as pleasant as could be and service was very good. The only issue was that the catfish was a bit "muddy". The preparation was excellent and the crawfish sauce was very good it was just a not so good a piece of fish (not bad enough to return just to be noticed). Never had a bad meal here and the bartender was amazing when I dined in a few weeks ago. The Guest Room attached in the back is the hidden gem of Starkville - an incredible speakeasy atmosphere that would stand out even in a big city like NYC.
On a Thursday night colleagues and I enjoyed an excellent meal at Restaurant Tyler. The fried okra and catfish eggroll appetizers were a great start. Try the okra even if you think you don't like okra, it's crispy and well seasoned. The wine list by the glass includes an appealing variety of choices, and my order of shrimp and grits was so very good.
