“We have been here several times before but not in several years. Greeting and service remain at a high level. Menu seems smaller and prices are MUCH higher than in the past. The food is excellent but portions are on the small side so it is possible to leave hungry after spending hundreds. Hard to say that you should rush here“

The muffins are large and tasty! The strawberry cake is a piece of Spring...light and full of strawberry ?! Outstanding Cake Pops and Macaroons. We still have a few items to try!!We saw one of their Special Occasion cakes being picked up...It was Gorgeous!!BUT...I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR TAMALES!! I'm visiting Cherry Grove from Los Angeles, and the matcha latte I had at Beach Dreams is better than any I've had anywhere. “I ordered a cake for my wife's 70th birthday and chose Cakes by the Sea because of the reviews and the quality of their website. I attempted to call the store on a day they showed as open, but there was no answer. I used a link to send an email and a couple of days later I received an email response that stated they were closed for vacation and would not be open for a couple more weeks. In my opinion, this information should have been posted on their website so that customers are aware. I wanted to order a specialized cake for this occasion so I was happy to wait since I did not need it for some time. I went to the store and ordered the cake a couple of weeks before the pickup. The woman who assisted me was friendly and assisted me with choosing the cake and the specific decorations that would be added. Because this was a surprise I was not able to pick the cake up the day of the party and had arranged for a friend go to pick it up. When I placed the order there were a couple of specific things that I requested to be done. Many who read this will say that this may be a bit nit picky but the sea grass piping on the side of the cake was to be done in a brown icing and was done in white. They also were to add additional white chocolate sea horses, which they did. That being said, the cake was truly a hit with my wife and all those who attended the party. The chocolate cake was moist and delicious and the peanut butter butter cream was also very good. overall I was pleased with the cake with the exception of the seagrass color, which would have given the sides of the cake a little more texture visually. The 4 stars is given because the cake was not completed exactly as ordered and for a higher end cake it should have been correct. The other reason is due to the website not reflecting the lengthy closing for vacation. I have contacted the store and discussed for informational purposes the missed sea grass color and they appreciated the information. I would absolutely recommend this bakery as a place to have a cake ordered and will order from here myself again in the future.“
“When I went it was out of season, however that didnt change a thing in my eyes. Only one lady there when we went and she was very kind. A little slow but I mean what can I expect from an out of season shop with one employee working. The slushies are the only things I've had from here and by God they are the greatest treat you can buy in Ocean Isle area. Super tasty treat :] would recommend to anyone.“
“This bakery is amazing! When you walk in, you know it is special. The cupcakes are enormous, their "nutter butter" cookies are delicious - and their muffins are incredible! Find the bakery and make the trip. It is worth it. I am from Massachusetts and went to some other local bakeries for my family. This one does not even compare. It is the best!!!“
“It's a little pricey but a great place for breakfast if you have the time to sit down and enjoy your food while you eat because it's buffet or you can just order off the menu to but the food is awesome very friendly and keep your cup full... That was a plus to me ... So if you get the time go check them out.Parking: Not a big parking lot but there is about 25 to 30 spots available“
“Such a great spot for date night. Food was amazing, Jamie was a fantastic server and when I left my card they called me within 5 minutes of leaving. The smoked fish dip is the most amount of dip I’ve gotten anywhere. Get the yellow fin tuna, any special they have that night and if you’re really lucky, the chorizo soup will be the soup of the night. 15 outta 10!!!“

“They are wonderful about accommodating allergies. My son has peanut, tree nut, and coconut allergies, and they have a chart readily available listing what items contain what allergens so he could choose something nut-free. They were so patient with him and opened up a fresh container of ice cream and a new pack of cones to ensure there was no cross-contamination. I can’t tell you how much this means to me as a parent with a child who has allergies and is constantly left out of things like cake and ice cream. Thank you so much for taking the time to accommodate him! I appreciate it SO much!“
