Shanghai Alley Reviews
Great service, food and atmosphere. Prices are great for amounts of portions, a hidden gem!
Simply the best Dim Sum in this area!
We had another lovely family lunch at Shanghai Alley this weekend! We have been here multiple times, and the food and service are consistently excellent.
The beautiful, spacious interior always makes for a great dining atmosphere.
During this visit, we loved the fried rice, vegetable lo mein, and the mixed veggies with tofu—everything was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. My favorite dish is Kung Pao Chicken. Service was quick and efficient as always.

Shanghai Alley is a busy restaurant that serves dim sum and other Chinese dishes. Many customers find the food to be delicious and beautiful, especially the Cantonese Dim Sum. The restaurant is known for its excellent duck, chicken, and dim sum, which many say are amazing and generous in portions. The prices are reasonable, making it a good option for frequent visits. While some reviews mention that the service can be quiet and blunt, it is not considered bad, and many appreciate the respectful and proud presentation of the food. The atmosphere is lively, especially on weekends, and the restaurant is popular for both dine-in and takeout. Customers have shared that they've been coming almost weekly and consistently feel satisfied. Some mention that their experience improves with patience, and trying new dishes is encouraged. The food is often described as fresh, with dishes like char siu pork fried rice tasting excellent. The dim sum has received praise, especially the shumai and soup dumplings, and the congee is also very good. The restaurant is very clean and provides good quality ingredients, with some noting that the food tastes homemade and like home. However, some reviews point out that the waiters rarely visit tables after delivering food, so customers have to flag someone down for service or to pay the bill. Overall, Shanghai Alley is often praised as a standout Chinese restaurant in Charleston, SC, filling a gap in quality Asian cuisine in the area.
