Szechuan Village is a gem of a spot with authentic Szechuan food near Chapel Hill. The food quality is good and it is the best Chinese food around, though it is very expensive. If the prices were lower, customers would come more often, but many treat it as a once a year or twice a year treat. The standard order includes Ma Po tofu, spicy fried fish fillet, cumin lamb, and stir fried string beans. The cauliflower dry pot, cucumber salad, and potato appetizer are also amazing. The braised beef with mushrooms and bamboo shoot, and fried lamb with pepper and cilantro are absolutely awesome. The watermelon fruit tea comes with fresh watermelon, and the sesame chicken from the lunch menu comes with rice and soup. The egg drop soup is phenomenal, the wonton soup is equally delicious, and the egg rolls are very fresh and not overly greasy. The chicken with broccoli is tender and full of flavor. The dining room is very nice, clean, tidy, and decorated well with a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are super friendly and kind. Compared to other restaurants, the portions are smaller at a greater cost, but this is a great location for upscale dining in. Most customers seem to be for takeout.
