Food was yummy & was out to us in a timely manner! Very friendly staff.
My first time at this Hwy 55 restaurant. My grandson and I entered and got a table. The young lady behind the counter greeted us, but looked upset. Young fella came over asked what we like to drink. He really looked like he was mad with the world with no smile. I ordered cheese steak, totes, and sweet tea. Grandson enjoyed his burger and fries n drink. We stopped here on our way home to Virginia after our vacation in Myrtle Beach, and I can honestly say HWY 55 was a great choice! The food was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious—10/10! The lady at the register was one of the sweetest people, and they even wrote a kind note on our food box that made me smile. It’s the little things that make a difference. If you’re passing through, I definitely recommend stopping by!

Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries in Elizabeth City offers a mixed dining experience. On a good day, the service can be exceptional, with friendly and attentive servers who ensure everything is on point. The restaurant is known for its cheesesteaks and milkshakes, with a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of a malt shop from the 60s or 70s. However, some visits may experience issues with food quality, including old sweet tea, undercooked onion rings, and under-blended shakes. Burgers may also come with incorrect toppings. While the staff is generally friendly and helpful, the food can be lacking in seasoning and flavor. Some customers have been disappointed to find that the drive-thru is often closed, and there have been instances of running out of large cups. Overall, Hwy 55 is an okay place to eat that serves its purpose in an area with limited options, but it has room for improvement to reach its full potential.
