GBW: The Filling Station Brewery • $$
118 W Chestnut St, Goldsboro

“No food, just beer, wine and soft drinks. Food trucks frequently make an appearance at this rehabbed gasoline "filling station." It has been redone to be a bar serving GOldsboro Brew Works beers and sours. We joined the fun of raising $20k for St. Baldrick's to conquer childhood cancers. Great partnership with the Goldsboro Elks and Brick's Pizza. Men and women volunteered to have their heads shaved, locks of love benefited from some of the longer manes. Many a winter beard were gone, along with some eyebrows. Despite the crowd, service was great, the bartender remained friendly. Outside fenced courtyard looks like a fun play space for kids and dogs. Outside seating available. Ample parking behind the building or across the street.#doitdowntown #DGDC“

“Located in a strip mall with a hardware store on one side and a connected grill/restaurant on the other, you don't want to miss this local brewery. It's larger than it appears with a comfortable lounge area with lots of seating in the front and a bar in the back. Be sure to check out the door--now table bejeweled with bottle caps. It's a work of art! Beer and wine only. Wine is sold by in bottles. A nice variety of many different types of reds and whites available at a moderate price point. You can also order wine slushies served frozen and sweet. First Brew is best known for its beer selection. They have 16 rotating flavors on tap. Flights are available for sampling or you can choose your favorites in 10 ounce or 16 ounce pours in real glassware. Other beer options include bottles and cans available in the cooler. The majority of their beers are craft beers brewed locally in North Carolina. Look for unique sours and ciders. There are other options, including domestic beers available.A menu for John's Grill is available and you walk into the adjoining room to place your order. While you pay next door when you order, they do hand deliver to First Brew. Fried garlic cheese curds are a tasty side to cold beer. The manager was our bartender, and did a great job taking care of us and answering all of our questions. She was friendly and efficient and working hard! The day we visited was cool out so no one was on the back deck. Outdoor seating, barbecue grills, and corn hole look to be popular activities. Check out the fence with lots of signs and interesting decor.First Brew is worth the stop! I'm excited to be the first to review First Brew and hope other Yelpers will support this local business too.“
