Hangry Joe's Hickory Hot Chicken

As a first time customer at the store in Hickory NC, I must say I was excited to try the hype that everyone has been talking about. I had coupons so I was ordering for myself along with my family. Plus getting a text today saying 3 tenders for $5 had my attention. I went into the store and your cashier was nice, but not really sure on how to ring items up with the special and coupons. She needed helped from the manager in which was sitting in the corner on her laptop talking to some boy that was not an employee at the time. cashier still needing her help, and the manager was going in and out of the building. She finally came back in and I was able to place my orders. I had a coupon to buy 6 wings and get 6 boneless free. Not sure on flavors I did boneless cheese and bone in honey bbq. Then I had buy a combo and get kids meal free. I got #2 chicken strips meal with fries, drink and kids meal with sunny d for my nephew. On a second order I ordered 3 strips cheese and 3 strips honey bbq. All my orders was to go. Everything came out, I went to my car to check everything. EVERYTHING WAS COLD!!! FRIES WAS HARD! Chicken was cold! It was nasty. I took everything back in and explained to the manager it was cold and hard. She said just hand it here and I put everything back in the bag. She says we make everything to order. This was not correct, there was no way. She then went to the kitchen telling the cook that she needed this order remade. He said why? She said she says it is cold. Hello??? Meanwhile I am there and you both are talking about me??? My order gets ready and they said everything was in the bag. I go back to the car and was leaving. Bad vibes told me to check the order again. I checked and sure enough, no second order. I pull back in the lot, explain this is only my first order. Where is my second one? The manager then yells from her table, just give her whatever she wants. I said not whatever I want. What I ordered. She said just give it to her to the cashier. The. The cook comes up to me and says exactly what did you get? I told him my entire order and that I am missing the 6 strips. He goes back to get them, but before he gives me my order he checks the screen and goes back to all the previous orders. I said did you see the order? He just shakes his head yes and goes back through the doors. Meanwhile, after being there for 30-45 minutes I gave up and left. I also did not get my nephew’s sunny d, but I was tired of going in and out of the store just to get everything I ordered and being treated this way. I paid $24 on first order and almost $11 for second and it still was not fully correct.

We are just a short walk across the parking lot and we are so glad you're in the neighborhood! We probably have one or two people from our shop over there to pick up lunch every day. :)

We tried this for the first time yesterday. The guys working were incredibly helpful and patient helping us decide what to order. The chicken sandwich was great. The waffle fries with Hangry Joe’s sauce were awesome. And we also enjoyed one of their milkshakes. Highly recommend.

Ya'll. . . You have to try this place. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but so are most places these days. The regular size chicken "sando" was still decently sized and came with enough waffle fries. The chicken was really good. Fries came with a delicious sauce. I got the Angry hot, and it did not disappoint. They make you sign a waiver, so I was worried it would be inedible. I wouldn't recommend you getting that unless you absolutely love carolina reapers. This is a ghost pepper sauce. Wash your hands afterwards and don't touch your face!
Employees were friendly enough, I don't expect over enthusiasm.

I understand being new and all but the prices here are pretty outrageous in what world does $25 for 6 tenders seem reasonable

My fiancé and I came here to grab some fried chicken. Very pricey for a new place but still good service and atmosphere. We love the seasoning and sauces as well as the crispy chicken. However, the first and second time we got the same order, the chicken wasn’t fully cooked and it was pink with a bit of blood.

Update: Parking is terrible. I bottomed out my 2014 VW Jetta on the sidewalk just trying to leave. NEVER COMING BACK.

The food isn't bad, but for the value East Coast wings is better if just getting chicken wings. The food came out quick, but the temperature of everything felt like it had been sitting around a while. The waffle fries tasted oily (low temp frying?). I was excited to try this place for the first time, but we won't be back unless they fix the issues I mentioned.

Parking: Depending on direction of travel on NC-127 you have to take a side road to enter the parking lot as there is a concrete median on NC-127 at the entrance

Ordered mac and cheese meal, the service was small for the price, there was a paper between the cardboard tray and the food, that was you ate the mac and cheese, the paper would shred into the barely room temperature food.
For a total of almost $50 for 2 people to eat, i won't be back, not like this.

Great chicken! Still working out the kinks. Kids meal ONLY comes with Sunny D and soda or a shake is an upcharge, okay...but no it's rang as a separate item at full price. None of my group want Sunny D. Just charge the difference in price, Hangry Joe. Mac n cheese both times I went....great but served differently and in different portions each time. Ranch ordered both times with upcharge, neither time got it with out asking again. Korean bites once served with some sauce on the side then second time, no sauce on the side. Pickles once no pickles next time. Ordered Honey BBQ tenders asked what heat, was told could get mild even though menu looked like Honey Bbq didn't come in mild. It infact did not. Came as mild tenders, no honey bbq. Receipt provided afterwards showed it as Honey BBQ on the side??? I ordered cider slaw and it came on my kids plate so she ate some of it, before I realized that it was mine then acted like I had taken something from her when I told her I ordered it. What if she was a coworker and not my kid? Place ala carte sides on a tray not on someone's plate just because it fits. I think this place is a gem! Honestly these were just some mild hiccups compounded to make it a bit frustrating, but the idea is solid and the food quality is wonderful. This will do well in Hickory and I know will be added to my families rotation.

this is one of my all time hot chicken spots. Great food, Friendly staff and a nice clean interior.

So we have been here almost once a week every week since they opened. We've always had good food there has only been one time where I didn't get enough chicken bites. But the quality of food matches their prices in my opinion. If you want cheap food and crappy quality go to mcdonalds lol but we will continue to come as long as they're open.
