“This review is for the restaurant. This place is also a decently stocked Mexican grocery store and butcher shop.We had four pork flour tacos and they along with the onions, sauce etc. and tasted very good. The place has a 93 sanitary rating which is pretty good. The only reason it has four stars and not five is because the menu does not have prices listed. The price I was charged seemed a bit on the high side but the taste of the freshly cooked tacos was well worth it.“
“Stopped in here for a late lunch with my teen and toddler. We were greeted on entry and quickly seated. The waitress came promptly and she was very nice. The menu is a bit extensive, one will need a few minutes to decide as they have a wide variety to choose from.The complimentary chips were fresh, the salsa I expected more. If it was prepared fresh would have been so much better. The white bean dip was just OK.The food was not hot, the portion was decent but the beans tou could count. When I see rice and beans that is exactly what I expect.The tamales were not very good at all. Probably just different from what we have previously ate at other places.I also felt there was a lack of flavor for a Mexican restaurant.Not an expensive place and we loved the decor.Would visit again, if it is even to find the best thing on the menu.Parking: This restaurant is located in a shopping plaza with various stores.“
“Updated review (2023; 4 stars) - Monte D Rey is still far from being the best Mexican restaurant in the High Country, but it has definitely made improvements over the past year. I no longer drink, so I cannot comment on the margaritas but I can attest that the food quality and flavor has improved. I ordered a steak soft taco supreme tonight and the flavors were so good - so savory and the tortilla was perfect. Very large portion for a taco and it was very filling. Service was great. I'm convinced that they have the BEST Mr. Pibb and my cup never got more than half empty thanks to my great server.Original review (2022; 3 stars) - We've been to Monte D Rey twice now. The first time wasn't great so we gave it another go recently, months after our first visit. Second visit was no better than the first.The service is decent but the food and drinks leave much to be desired. The rice was stale both times. Our alcoholic beverages tasted so bad that we had to mix them with soda to make them drinkable. My quesadilla was filled with the tiniest sprinkle of cheese and my partner's burrito was filled with mostly lettuce.“
“I was there to order takeout and was impressed with a friendly and prompt greeting. They even helped with the menu, as it was my first time there. Many booths were full and the place was clean. The lady even offered to come to my car when my order was ready because my dog was in the car. Would recommend their Al Pastor Tacos!“
