There aren't too many places out there that make homemade ice cream anymore. Handel's makes some of the best in town. They have a lot of unique flavors that you cannot get anywhere else. I've been here a few times and recommend their butter pecan and black cherry flavors.
After moving to the area last year, I made it my mission to try local ice cream place in Cary/Morrisville. I’m an ice cream purist and prefer the traditional flavors. All those fancy flavors with lots of random sugary things mixed in to oddball bases are just not for me. And those giant shakes and sundaes overflowing with candies and mountains of whipped cream? This is my fav ice cream parlor in the area. We purchase their ice cream often. For some reason on the night of April 5th, every ice cream we bought tasted bland. We ordered lemon bar and graham central station and the lemon bar lacked lemon and the GCS ice cream tasted like vanilla. This has never happened before so it could just be a fluke but fair warning. Sample the ice cream before buying a quart or pint.
