“After hearing the history and hype, I had to at least give it a try. Man am I glad I did.It is a simple, no-frills, hot dog joint. The food hasn't changed in 96 years and the store probably hasn't either. That is NOT a bad thing. It is a step back in time and sometimes a bit of nostalgia makes everything better. As for the food. It is a simple red hot hot dog served on a steamed bun. This isn't something that will win Master Chef or get them a James Beard Award. If that is what you're expecting, you're missing the whole point of what a hot dog joint is. They simply have three things you can put on your dog; yellow mustard, diced onions, and their "house recipe chili". The chili is good, in its own unique way.The chili is a white bean chili with some spice. I'm fairly sure it is "thickened" with corn starch l, so it has a texture different from every other chili I've had (I'm a native Texan, so that is a LOT of chili). I had to approach it with an open mind, because it wasn't a "chili sauce" (like Cincinnati raves about), chili con carne (Texas style), or really anything I was used to. With all that said, it is tasty and I will definitely get it on my dogs in the future. It does have some heat, which is a very subjective thing. On a 1 to 10 scale, I'd place it at a 4. It hits a medium level with a lingering burn that is enough to open sinuses, but won't make you sweat or give you stomach cramps. So, in summation, I say if you want a simple and quick bite for lunch as you stroll the little Washington downtown and riverfront, you can't go wrong with a Bill's Hot Dog or three. Grab some chips and a soda and wander South towards the river and grab a bench or picnic table. What you are doing is continuing on a lunch tradition in the area that goes back to before the Great Depression.Parking: On street parking is available, but limited, in front of the store and along Main Street to the South. There are free parking lots South near the water and East towards Market (across from the courthouse) that are a block or so away. Street parking in front is limited to 1 hour, but as this is a takeout, that isn't a major concern. If you're wanting to stroll downtown, use one of the lots for longer parking availability.“

“Sorry I don’t have pictures but everything I ordered was good except the chicken nuggets. They were dropped twice and too crispy. I will return again for late night munchies if I’m in the area. The wait was very long as to be expected when workers are minimal. Pricing is low.“

“Bill's Hot Dogs are awesome! The spicy taste has a unique flavor, while the gorgeous toppings are nice & fresh! If you love the old style bottles of soda pop, like me,you will certainly enjoy the Christian flavored atmosphere of friendship & great food! My friends, visit them soon, especially coming up for Spring time & don't forget to take a leisurely slow walk by the picturesque; beautiful waterfront. Your family & friends,of course, are beside you; keeping you company.Paying close attention to the energetic, fast moving kids, is always crucial; & absolutely necessary; since they love running around near the water. The Pamlico river is deep, which provides, excellent fishing opportunities, beware of the passively strong under current & always stay alert; for sudden possible dangerous situations....“

“Nice little small town diner with friendly staff and locals. We stopped for a quick breakfast as we were passing through and were pleasantly surprised by this place. The potatoes were seasoned just right and the rest of the food was cooked well and was yummy. They have a nice to go setup along with dine in. Would definitely recommend this place.“

“The food is good. The cheese biscuits can be hard on the bottoms from over cooking or something sometimes, but other than that everything else I've had was great. The atmosphere is good and it's a laid back hotdog and ice cream parlor. There's a dog park and a children's park behind it. With a walking/running track and softball and baseball fields. The employees are great other than the one young guy, he can be rude sometimes. Overall a decent place for a quick snack or meal.“
