Ordered meatloaf mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was bland hardly any flavor. Not to mention the meatloaf had peppers in it cut up so big I had to chew 1 mil times to break them up good enough to swallow them. The waitress put the food down walked away and never came back. Ivan was on the grill and noticed I wasn't eating. He asked me was everything OK I shook my head no. He immediately came over apologized and grabbed the plate. Asked me would I like anything else. I told him a BLT with fries. I've eaten here several times before but only got breakfast or lunch sandwiches. That has always been good I'll stick to that because the dinner type food was not it. The original waitress that was helping me never came back to my table. Ivan brought my BLT and fries over and constantly checked on me even offered a drink refill all while running the grill. His service and customer service skills were beyond amazing so I left him an amazing tip. When it was time for me to check out the waitress who took the first order dropped it off and never came back to the table just so happened to be at the register when I checked out. The tip I left was almost double what I paid for the food. Her eyes got big and I immediately made sure she knew that tip was for Ivan for he was the one that went above and beyond and took care of me. Hopefully next time that waitress won't stereotype and give good service straight across the board to all patrons that enter Grandma Ruby's. Ivan need a raise he's awesome and the only reason why I'd come back here again.

When you put “Chicken Pie” people expect to get chicken pie and NOT Moravian chicken pie. I ordered chicken pie and got Moravian chicken pie, I didn’t like it and asked for a discount because I didn’t eat it. I definitely didn’t like it and wasn’t expecting that to be put in front of me. They refused to discount it even though I said you should put Moravian chicken pie if that’s what you plan to serve when people order chicken pie.

I used to drive 45 minutes to this restaurant for their Pork Chop. I’ve posted a picture of it on social media. I’ve bragged about how good their pork chop is to others. I had encouraged one of my friends to go with me to Grandma Ruby’s and have the pork chop. So recently, we went. We ordered the pork chop. When the food came, the waitress sat down a small piece of dry meat that looked nothing like their pork chop. I asked the waitress what had happened to their pork chop. She played dumb as if she didn’t know that they were serving a completely different cut of meat that was half the size of what she used to serve. I explained to her that the pork chops I had eaten there were big, thick, juicy, and had a layer of delicious fat on them. She gave me the old, “We can’t control what they bring us” lie. My friend and I had no choice but to eat what they brought us. It was thin, dry, super tough, and tasteless. My friend looked at me like I was an idiot for bragging about their pork chop. I apologized to my friend because I was so embarrassed. We left hungry and I went straight to another restaurant to get something to eat. I can’t remember the last time that I was that disappointed. The only reason I drove so far to go to this restaurant was for the pork chop. Now I have no reason to go.

Tiny diner fare. Well cooked, and they keep an eye out for you. I was never waiting on anything, and the bacon is top notch. Great prices too.

Coming here was a fantastic experience. The prices are great, the service was fantastic and the food is DELICIOUS! Everything we ordered came out fresh, hot and fast. This is going to be our new go-to place to eat anytime we are in Winston Salem.
Not only does this place have amazing food to fuel your body but it has the sweetest people to fuel your soul.
Watching the employees and their regular guests greet eachother by name, give one another hugs and even seeing one employee help cut up some food for a guest was a nice reminder that there is kindness in the world if we just slow down a little and look around.
Their tasty food warmed our stomachs and their amazing kindness and hospitality warmed our hearts.

Craving a hot dog, and my usual go-to (Kermit’s) was closed. Heard good things about this place, so I gave it a try.
I’ve never had a hot dog be so overcooked that it looked like the outside of a Hickory Farms summer sausage.
The outside was so firm it was almost crunchy. They burned the edges of the bun too, maybe to distract me from the crispy burned wiener.
When I asked my “waitress” about it, she first tried to tell me it was the stain of the chili.
When I pulled the dog out of the bun and showed her the underside where no chili touched, killing her argument; she snapped “that’s just how our hot dogs are” and turned and walked away. Never saw her again.
The waitresses and staff frequently disappeared during my visit - to the point where a patron at the counter picked up the phone that had been ringing non stop, trying to help a caller.
The only person who seemed to be consistently taking care of their customers was a waiter I can best describe as a young Dwight Yoakam, right down to the cowboy hat.
The food and waitress attitude and staff disappearance made my first trip a total bust.
I will go back during the week to give it another shot with some of their home cooking daily specials - just to see if it was a weekend staff issue vs a restaurant issue.

We came in for breakfast. We were greeted by one person, but no one came to our table. After about 5 minutes, the cook asked if someone could get table 2, our table. The “server”, a young skinny kid with long brown hair, rolled her eyes and mocked him. She finally came to our table with her arms crossed as if to say “what do you want”? We were so put off, I told her “you know what? Never mind, we’ll go somewhere else.” We come at least once a week. Never been treated like that before.

My husband and I have wanted to eat here for about 8 years, but we never make it because it closes too early. We finally made it, and I'm so glad we did. It's very tiny and tight inside, but it's clean, the service is good, and the food was great. I can't wait to go back.

Second visit to this restaurant for take out and both times order was not complete as ordered. It is evident that wait staff doesn't pay attention to you or care when placing order and making sure it is correct before handing it to you. I will no longer visit or support this local establishment due to incompetent staff.
