Hel’s is a welcoming and inclusive bar in Winston-Salem, often called the Gay Bar of the town. The bar is very small inside but has a large patio outside to smoke. It has a definite charm for being ambiguously Gay. Hel’s is straight-up fun, loud, funky, and full of personality. The vibe hits the second you walk in. It is friendly, a little wild, and absolutely leans into its atmosphere. The drinks are solid, with a wide selection of signature cocktails and non-alcohol drinks, plus 420-infused options. Hel’s has karaoke every Wednesday starting at 10, and hosts drag and burlesque shows, often open to new faces. There is also a live DJ for dancing. The staff and customers are very friendly. It is a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals. The crowd is very diverse, and friendly dogs are allowed outside on the patio. Cold drinks and clean bathrooms are offered.
