It was my birthday yesterday, Monday, April 20, 2026, and I was alone so decided to stop in for dinner to cheer myself up. It was around 7 p.m. I mentioned to the host at the front that it was my birthday and would be dining alone. There were two other parties in there, a table behind me with a family, and two elderly ladies by the wall, who apparently brought in a bottle of wine as it's BYOB. I also mentioned to the waiter that it was my birthday. I ordered the Flounder...
I rarely, if ever, will spend money at an Italian joint— mostly bc I think I can cook better food at home and don’t feel like dishing out $100 for a mediocre meal.
This isn’t that. This is a neighborhood place that pumps out tight, legitimately great food. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive— just solid, homemade tasting Italian food.

I’ve eaten at Belmonte’s many times over the years, and while some things thankfully haven’t changed — the perfect downtown Asbury Park location and the cozy, welcoming atmosphere — something felt off during my most recent visit.
