Bao by Kaya is a nice spot if you're in the mood for Taiwanese/Chinese flavors. Ordered one of their combos which came with two baos and popcorn chicken. The Bao itself was soft with the meat inside being tender and flavorable. The popcorn chicken was pretty could but probably would've tasted a lot better if it was served fresh. Food came out in less than 5 minutes which was also a big plus. Will definitely need to come back and try some more!

Extremely friendly staff. If you are not sure what to eat, staff will give good recommendations.

I messed up big time. I ordered food (dan dan noodles) for my pregnant sister in law, and I forgot to ask no peanuts. Kai, who was out cashier, helped me out and made a new bowl for me with no peanuts. He made a new bowl without charging me for it as well. We wanted to return the other bowl with the peanuts but he insisted that we keep it. He was like "this time you good, but next time ima have to do it to you and charge you." Which I totally agree with. What a gentleman!!! Bow I have a bow to eat while I get killed multiple times on Apex Legends!!!!

I was hoping to love this place so much but it wasn't anything fantastic. I got the 3 bao + drink combo & from the 3 I had (braised pork, Szechuan beef & popcorn chicken), the popcorn chicken was the best flavor wise. Maybe I'll try a bowl one day, but I won't be rushing to try anything from here. I just wish the flavors were more minimalistic and complimentary.

I was so happy to see this place at Newport mall. I used to go to the midtown location near 51st street. My favorite item was the popcorn chicken but it was not on the menu at this location. After talking with the staff, he said he could make it for me if I like. Instead, I had pork belly bao, spicy chicken bao and spicy chicken dumplings. They were well seasoned and yum!

Excellent graphic design. Mediocre food. The R1 Lou Rou plate. Egg wasn't marinated thoroughly. The pork cut was odd - more like straight up ground pork than pork belly. This dish is supposed to use a fatty cut. Portion size was small, with most of the plate occupied by rice and a side of kale. Still, one of the better options in the mall food court.

I understand why there’s never a line for this place. The chicken they use is red meat (whose heard of red meat popcorn chicken?) and tastes off. Food quality needs work.

Came here looking for a snack and because they have really bright lights on the sign. I ordered the red curry chicken bao bun - it was AMAZING. Fresh veggies and great flavorful pulled chicken. I also got the lychee green tea which I wasn't a fan of at all (the lychee tasted soapy, and the flavor wasn't fresh) so I asked them to change it for me, to just green tea, and they happily did. Great customer service and great food. Highly recommend

When the food court at Harborside opened, Kaya was one of my go-to spots. Offering up Tawainese bao buns with a number of fillings, it made for a quick and satisfying lunch. I'm thrilled that the recently opened Bao by Kaya counter at Newport Mall hasn't missed a beat. The buns (think of them as small, fluffy tacos) are always a hit, with the Szechuan Cow (braised beef, carrot, cilantro, Szechuan sauce) and Pork Belly (braised pork belly, peanuts, hoisin sauce) the best of the bunch. Maximize the deal by making it a combo with a side of popcorn chicken: crispy bites tangy with five spice and spicy mayo.

Perhaps just 4 stars on its merits, Bao by Kaya gets an upgrade for being the most reliable and interesting spot in the food court. Pork bao is a good bet. I've dug further down the menu and the Xin Jiang chicken packs the strongest flavor. The combo bowls would work better without corn. which is something i associate with Shop-Rite purchases more than festive non-home dining.
