I have purchased ghorayebah cookies from Karen’s (by way of Balady in Brooklyn) for numerous years. I’ve laughed many times at the misspelled labels and was happy to see the last package didn’t have 1 misspelled word - yay. HOWEVER I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY now. Ghorayebah cookies are supposed to have an almond in the middle of EACH cookie. There was ONE almond in the entire package - out of like 30 cookies - ONE ALMOND! The price went from $5.99 a few years...
I found some of the KCB biscuits at Balady's in Brooklyn. At first glance I thought this was a fig filled biscuit, but upon closer inspection and tasting, it appears to be a delightful semi-sweet date paste. Truly addictive stuff.
I came across Karen bakery randomly while looking for bakeries in the JC area. The store is unassuming and the smell of fresh baked bread hits you as you enter. It was amazing to see the carts full of freshly baked carbs. There were no menus so, it was a little confusing trying to figure out what to get.
