“Philly's got some solid vegan restaurants but in my experience, this is the only one where Dr. Michael Greger may drop in to see Chef Alice and crash your lunch party. But that's not even my favorite part about this place — it's a cafe really devoted to the mission of nourishing health through good food. A lot of the meat-free restaurants in town serve tasty food but aren't exactly in the ballpark of WFPB — whereas Joy is looking to add years to your healthspan... without selling short on flavor! Alice is a quintessential crusader restaurateur. I also appreciate the gluten-free options, and I congratulate myself for the dignity I exhibited last visit when I abstained from eating the paper wrapper of my blueberry muffin in desperation to get every crumb down.“

“What a great find in my work travels today! I had the gluten free sesame kale wrap and butternut squash soup. Both were excellent! The wrap had just the right amount of tang and sweet. The soup allowed the butternut squash to lead the flavor with just a hint of coconut milk.

As far as genuinely health promoting options in Center City, it's pretty hard to beat--whether you want to promote your own physical health or that of our environment and our economy. Not only will the food here give you a healthy glow, but the produce itself almost has a glow to it. I swear, this place has the most beautiful, dark, soft kale I’ve ever seen served, which contrasts beautifully with the vibrant and bright colours of toppings like red cabbage and bell peppers. The salads are expertly tossed, always balanced, and always delicious. And while the menu doesn't offer much variety beyond salads, soups du jour, fresh juices, and dense baked goods, it's also directly connected to the grocery store, as stated earlier, meaning you can grab all manner of other a la carte items with a meal here. Did I mention that the main seating area to eat here is up above the checkout at the store and gives you a birds’ eye view of all the grocery goings-on? Only other real downside I can think of is that it can get busy and there can be a wait if you are ever hear at the peak lunchtime hour.“
